The Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi is all set to become the Attorney General for India again. The Advocate is reported to start his tenure from October 1, 2022 after current Attorney General K.K. Venugopal ends his on September 30th.
The constitutional post of Attorney General, post of the top legal officer of the country, is all set to be attained by the Senior Advocate Mukul Rahtogi once again. The Advocate is to start his tenure from October 1st, 2022, as informed by the tweet of INAS India.

Mukul Rahtogi had been on the post of the top law officer once before as well. He was first appointed as the Attorney General of India in 2014 for a three-year term until 2017.
Article 76 of the Constitution of India States that the Attorney General of India is appointed by the President. The person should be qualified to be appointed as a judge in the Supreme Court of India.The Attorney General also enjoys a right of audience in all courts in the country.
Attaining of the post
K.K. Venugopal, 91, was appointed as the Attorney General of India on June 30, 2017. Venugopal succeeded Rohatgi as the 15th A-G in July 2017 for three years.
After three years with the tenure of Venugopal coming to an end in 2020, he had requested that he be relieved of his post citing his advancing age. With the absence of a correct candidate he was again requested by the central government to continue holding the top office for another term. Venugopal, however agreed, restricted extending his term by another year.
Now after 5 years, incumbent Attorney General K.K. Venugopal sought to end his tenure on September 30th, 2022.Â
Sources said Sir Venugopal,while arguing in a matter recently, indicated that he may not continue as the top law officer, after the completion of his present term. After which Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who is one of the top court lawyers in the country, is being decided for the post. Sources also informed that the advocate gave his consent for assuming the top post.
