Diwali is a festival of light, love and joy. It is celebrated world wide with great enthusiasm. here are some ways of how we can celebrate diwali and in a more sustainable and eco friendly manner.
Diwali is one of the major festivals of Hindus, sikhs, and Jains. It is celebrated between the months of October and november.
This festival symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. This festival is a 5 days festival of light which begins on the occasion of Dhanteras and ends on Bhai dooj every year.
Diwali after impacts
In emerging times we have seen that these festivities end up with lots of wastage and pollution, which is a cause of concern. whether it is burning of firecrackers which causes noise pollution or it could be affecting the air quality which directly threatens living beings on a serious note.
Furthermore, lots of gifts that are exchanged leads to unnecessarily accumulation of clutter and trash at home.
Here are some ways to make this year’s Diwali celebration more beautiful, joyous as well as eco-friendly and that could be a gift to our mother earth from us.
Gift healthy good food items-
food is something that brings family and friends together . instead of buying sweets from shops which could be made of unhealthy ingredients, try making homemade sweets or gifting organic products.
Handmade cards and recyclable gifts wrap paper-
we can try out our creativity in making a handmade card and a personalised message card along with it. Wrapping a gift with cloth or paper that can be used again would be a great option. We can reuse that cloth and paper which will also not affect our environment.
Refusing fireworks-
Firecrackers that burst on the day of diwali results in unhealthy breathing air the next day for all of us, which makes us stay at home for several days. So we need to take a strong decision to say no to fireworks and instead, use paper poppers or just light an earthen lamp at home. Celebrate diwali with your laughter not crackers.
Decorations-
Decorate your home with paper decorations such as lanterns will look very attractive. Also, we can decorate our home with house plants and flowers. Simple traditional diyas look more elegant and beautiful. This way of decorating our house will be beneficial to us as well as to our atmosphere.
Organic rangoli-
Use traditional methods of making rangoli. Traditional rituals of using natural colours from rice, grains, turmeric, flowers, and leaves are in trend and eco friendly.
