The Kashmir Files Box Office Collection Day 3: The Anupam Kher-starters opening weekend total collection now stands at Rs 27.15 crore. Sunday saw a growth of over 300%.
Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files’ saw a tremendous jump at the box office on its third day. The film has collected a total of ₹27.15 crores in three days. Major contributors to the box office numbers were Mumbai, Delhi NCR, and East Punjab.
The Kashmir Files was released on March 11 and starred actors Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi., Kashmir Files dramatizes the persecution and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits at the hands of separatists in the early 1990s.
The Kashmir Files earned ₹3.55 crore on its opening day on March 11, the film earned ₹8.50 crore on Saturday, and on Sunday it saw an extraordinary jump of Rs. 15.10 crores not just in India, the film has resonated well across the globe as it has earned Rs 2.15 crore at the global box office.
Taran Adarsh, a Movie business analyst also tweeted the figures. He tweeted,
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has also praised him for the film, even if he disagrees with his ideology.
Box-office collection
After a restricted release on only 600 screens on Friday, Sunday’s count has jumped closer to 2000 screens, and it is a success story that will go down in the history books as no film in the last 20 years showed such performance enhancement over the weekend.
There is a tremendous audience demand for the film, and as a result, the exhibitors have replaced Radhe Shyam’s show with The Kashmir Files. Single screen owners are also feeling the pressure of the audience, and it is this pressure that has prompted them to drop Prabhas’ film and replace it with The Kashmir Files.
Early trends and vibe suggest at least Rs 12 crore on Sunday for The Kashmir Files, which rakes in over Rs 23.50 crore in the opening weekend. Tanhaji (January 10, 2020) was the last Bollywood blockbuster.
While the Hindi film industry has seen two hits in the pandemic (Sooryavanshi and Gangubai), the return on investment for The Kashmir Files will be beyond one’s imagination if the film continues with its winning streak on weekdays. The initial response suggests that the audience has accepted the film with open arms and the sky is the limit, however, a stronger Monday than Friday will strengthen this hypothesis.
Now no one can guess the box office numbers of The Kashmir Files, as it can end up with any numbers between Rs 75 crores and Rs 200 crores, and it is only the trend of the day of the week that will tell where it’s going.
The film will maintain a good number of screens in the second week as well and the trade is already labeling it as a ‘long race horse’. If the film manages to hit Rs 60 crores, that will mean a blockbuster verdict. The trend suggests that The Kashmir Files will most likely be a blockbuster but only time will tell if the movie will go down in history forever.
