Two months after losing his only child, versatile actor Shiv Kumar Subramaniam passes away.
On Sunday night, April 10th, Shiv Kumar Subramaniam, a well-known actor and award-winning scriptwriter, passed away in the city. Sanya Malhotra’s Meenakshi Sundareshwar and Alia Bhatt’s 2 States were two of his most well-known characters. The actor passed away just two months after his wife Divya and him lost their only child to a terminal disease.
Shiv’s son, Jahaan, died of a brain tumor two months ago when he was only 15 years old. Shiv’s exact cause of the death is unknown. Subramaniam, who was in his early 60s, had not been keeping well for quite some time.
Shiv’s mortal remains were cremated at Moksh Dham, Hindu Shamshan Bhoomi, Caesar Rd, Amboli, Andheri West, Mumbai, on April 11 at 11 a.m.
Tributes are coming in
Hansal Mehta, a well-known Indian film director, actor, writer, and producer, announced the actor’s death on Twitter. Mehta wrote, “Terrible news to wake up to. Shiv Subramaniam gone.
Heartbreaking.” On Twitter, he also posted a statement of Subramaniam family regarding his passing, as well as funeral information.
Indian filmmaker and social activist, Ashoke Pandit, expressed his condolences to the family of his good friend who passed away.
Actress Ayesha Raza Mishra, posted a letter on her Facebook page on Monday, with the words, “Rest in peace Shiv. Aur kya kahen (What more can I say). Be free of pain and rest my friend.”
Tejaswini Kolhapure shared a condolence message that read, “Gone too soon shiv..rest in peace”
Renuka Sahane, wrote on her twitter handle, “RIP Shiv Subramaniam. Such a gentle soul, such a talent, gone too soon, My heartfelt condolences to Divya and family” “Terrible news. The sadness doesn’t end. A great guy, and incredible talent. Gone too soon. #RIP #respect”, wrote Ranvir Shorey
Film maker Sanjay Gupta retweeted a post that paid tribute to the actor with the caption, “REST IN PEACE SHIV. You will be missed.”
Actor Manoj Bajpayee, as well as filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Sudhir Mishra, actor Gulshan Devaiah, casting director Mukesh Chhabra among others, took to social media to express their sorrow over Subramaniam’s death.
Filmography and career
Shiv Kumar Subramaniam is a screenwriter and veteran actor. He began his career as a screenwriter with Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda (1989). He also contributed to the screenwriting of critically praised films such as Sudhir Mishra’s Hazaaron khwaishein aisi (2000). 1942: A love tale (1994), Is raat ki subah nahin, Arjun pandit, Chameli, and Teen Patti are some of his other notable screenplays. For these films, he earned two Filmfare awards; Best Screenplay for ‘Parinda’, and Best Story for ‘Hazaaron khwaishein aisi’. These went on to become cult classics.
He was well-known as an actor for his excellent performances in films and television shows. He was most recognized in India for his portrayal of I.M. Virani, a powerful industrialist, in the Colors Channel drama Mukti Bandhan. Following a brief role in Parinda, he starred in Nana Patekar’s Prahaar. Stanley ka dabba, Hichki, Ungli, Nail polish, Kaminey, Rocky handsome, lakhon me ek, and a number of other films featured the actor. His most acclaimed performances were as Alia Bhatt’s father in two states and as Meenakshi Sundareshwar’s grandfather.
