After more than 30 years in the show business, actress Raveena Tandon has finally received one of India’s highest civilian honours for her contributions to the arts. The actress was recently awarded the Padma Shri, and President Draupadi Murmu presented her with the honours.

Raveena wore a gold silk saree with a black patti border and a black blouse with a gold embroidered border to match the event and was accompanied by her daughter, son and husband.
“It was undoubtedly a very moving occasion for me because it was something that my father, the director Ravi Tandon, had always envisioned and believed would make him happy and proud whenever I received the Padma Shri honour. Unfortunately, he is not present to see me today. So, receiving the honour left me with mixed emotions. My greatest joy came from thinking about him and telling myself that, at the very least, I had achieved my father’s dream”, said the actress.
Taking to her Instagram, the actress posted pictures of herself receiving the award from President Murmu, with her family and also with filmmaker SS Rajamouli who also extended his support to MM Keeravaani, another recipient of the Padma award and the music composer whose Naatu Naatu recently won India it’s first Oscar for an original song.
On the work front, Raveena was most recently seen in the box office sensation KGF 2 last year. The next time audiences see Raveena will be in the forthcoming movie Ghudchadi, which also stars Sanjay Dutt, Parth Samthan, and Khushali Kumar. Another of Raveena’s future ventures is Patna Shukla with Arbaaz Khan.

In honour of her services in the field of social work, Sudha Murthy received the Padma Bhushan as well. She is a philanthropist, eminent educator, recognised author, and the former chair of the Infosys Foundation and has started numerous programmes in the areas of women’s empowerment, art & culture, healthcare, and education. Her daughter, UK’s First Lady Akshata Murthy was also in attendance.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, the seasoned politician, who served as both India’s Defense Minister and Uttar Pradesh’s three-time chief minister was awarded the Padma Vibhushan award posthumously. His son and the current head of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav accepted the award on his father’s behalf from President Droupadi Murmu.
The veteran Oscar-winning Telegu Music Director Marakathamani Keeravaani received the Padma Shri award for art. He has extensive experience as a music composer, vocalist, and lyricist and has contributed to films in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
The Ceremony in the Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan
Three Padma Vibhushan, five Padma Bhushan, and 47 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2024 were given out by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, during the Second Investiture Ceremony, which was held on the evening of April 5th in the Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan in grand style. The First Investiture Ceremony took place in Darbar Hall on March 22, 2024.
Vice President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla, Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah, and other Union Ministers and dignitaries were among the dignitaries in attendance.
At the dinner held by the Union Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Cooperation at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi following the investiture ceremony, Shri Amit Shah and other Union Ministers spoke with the recipients of the Padma Awards.
The Padma Awardees paid respects at the National War Memorial this morning and visited the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, along with the Amrit Udyan and Rashtrapati Bhawan.
