According to a statement posted by the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations on Friday, October 14, the 16-year-old Asra Panahi died, after security forces raided the Shahid girls’ high school in Ardabil on October 13and demanded a group of girls sing a pro-regime song.
Asra Panahi,a 16-year-old teenager, along with other individuals objected to singing the song celebrating Iran’s supremacy.
They were then beaten by security forces after this. She along with others was either rushed to the hospital or was arrested. Panahi died in the hospital after injuries done by security forces, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Coordinating Committee of Iranian Educators’ Trade Associations.
However, the Iranian officials denied the accusation that security forces were responsible for this, however her erupted widespread rage among people.
Protests in support of the 16-year-old Teenager
Her murder aroused outcry across the nation. However, Iranian officials rejected that their security personnel was to blame for the whole incident. Asra’s passing occurs when Tehran is already engulfed in upheaval due to the anti-government rallies that erupted across the country, a month ago.
They have been persistently opposing the government over the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, 22, who was detained by the Religious Police for unlawfully donning a headscarf after being arrested. As per the reports, several young girls have perished, with the families and human rights organizations accusing the security forces.
Even teenage girls have been active in classrooms and playgrounds at several schools due to the street protests, showing their support for the lady’s movement.
Response of the Officials
Last week, the Iranian government retaliated by performing several searches on schools across the nation. According to reports, police broke into classrooms, violently detained school girls before putting them into awaiting cars, and fired tear gas into educational facilities.
Iran’s teacher’s union issued a statement on Sunday denouncing the “brutal and barbaric” raids and calling for the retirement of Yousef Nouri, the education minister.
