Finally, K-pop makes its way to Fitness Plus.Â
Upon the launch of the Apple Fitness Plus in 2020, it was intended to serve as a showcase for the new dance activity on the Apple Watch, but it was also intended to serve as a covert method to connect other services like Apple Music.Â
Apple’s fitness program has already been extended to include an Artist Spotlight series with well-known bands, so it’s no surprise that the company is combining all of this with dance routines based on the mega-popular K-pop bands.Â
The BTS collaboration is part of a multimedia package for International Dance Day, which will take place on April 29th in South Korea.Â
Exercises will be guided by Fitness Plus trainer Ben Allen and will include choreography taken directly from BTS’ music videos, which will begin next week.Â
There are several successful tracks from the albums, including “Butter (with Megan Thee Stallion),” “Dynamite,” “Boy with Luv (feat. Halsey),” DNA, “Life Goes On,” “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix),” and “Permission to Dance.” Four weeks from now, the group’s music will be used in different types of fitness, like high-intensity interval training.Â
The major element of Fitness Plus has always been the combination of music and fitness, which is enhanced by the option for users to store playlists in their Apple Music accounts. While the musicians included have mostly been English-language artists from the United States, outside of the Latin Grooves genre, they have also included some performers from other countries.Â
The inclusion of K-pop, on the other hand, makes sense considering how successful the genre has grown in the worldwide market. Starting with BTS makes sense as well, given the group was among the best-selling groups in the United States in 2021, with 2.95 million digital song sales and four of the top ten best-selling albums in the country.Â
However, it is not only comprised of BTS members. As part of the International Dance Day celebrations, Apple has also introduced a new dance collection named “Get into the Groove with Dance” as well as a limited-edition prize. ‘Collectibles’, which are customized training playlists for particular goals like completing a 5K, is a relatively recent feature of the platform and is available now.Â
In addition to BTS, Apple is also adding Artist Spotlight sessions from ABBA and Queen to its schedule.Â
