According to the ANI reports, Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma will attend the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) meeting led by former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar regarding the squad selection for the upcoming Asia Cup. The meeting is scheduled for August 21 in New Delhi.
While other participating countries have announced their 15 men’s squad, the Indian Board is still yet to disclose their list for the upcoming event in September’s first week.
Reason Behind the delay :
The delay still remains due to the fitness of crucial Indian players like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who were in rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bengaluru. At the same time, the Committee expects good fitness reports from these players.
According to the previous reports the duo was not perfectly fit to be considered in the final selection list. But in the past few days, their chances have boosted to represent the country in the event to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The selection committee alongside Rohit Sharma will have a formal discussion regarding the selection of the duo and the requirement of the team.
The selection of these players has been under the eyes of many former cricketers and fans.If reports are to be believed this duo might make it to the Rohit-led 15-member squad. Hardik Pandya would accompany his former Mumbai Indians teammate as the vice-captain.
The former head coach Ravi Shastri also unveiled his team for the Asia Cup where he chose Ishan Kishan and Rohit as the opening pair. He also included Shubman Gill, Hardik and former skipper Virat Kohli.
Ravi alongside MSK Prasad the chief selector said that they had observed him closely where he was at NCA for a week and feels that he seems to be fit. KL suffered a thigh injury during the IPL earlier this year.
Shastri surprisingly excluded KL from the Asia Cup where he gave preference to Kishan because of his decent performance in the series against West Indies.Â
Speaking on Star Sports Shastri also praised the left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan for the contributions he has made for the country as an opening batsman.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has marked his comeback as the star is totally fit and currently leading the team in Ireland.
Bumrah strikes on his comeback:
Ace Pacer Jasprit Bumrah made his international comeback after almost 11 months with a bang as the ace pacer took two early wickets in the first over of the first T20 game. Indian side bowling first restricted Ireland to 139 runs. However, the game took an early decision as rain played a spoilsport favoring team India which led them to a 2 runs victory according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
A former selector said that the management would be more concerned about Bumrah’s fitness level. The series will help him to understand his body and match his fitness for upcoming events.
The star pacer had missed out on major events like T20 World Cup 2022, World Test Championship and the IPL 2024 season too. However, the he looks totally fit to be included in the Asia Cup squad and also lead the bowling side in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2024.
The tournament will kick off on August 30. The most anticipated clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will be on September 2.
In terms of the groups, team India is placed in group ‘A’ alongside Nepal and Pakistan. Group ‘B’ includes co-hosts Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
