The attack on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant facility by Russia has sparked a global outcry. Apple CEO Tim Cook has addressed an email to its Ukrainian employees in response to Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine, assuring them that the company is doing everything it can to assist them. The email emphasizes that Apple will match donations made by its employees two-to-one. According to Cook, Apple is proactively offering aid to the “unfolding refugee catastrophe” and donating to humanitarian relief operations. MIT develops solar-powered, portable desalination system

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China have developed a low-cost passive photo voltaic evaporation system that may be used to clean wastewater or desalinate saline water to produce potable water. Most modern attempts at photovoltaic desalination make use of a wick to draw salty water through the device. However, these wicks are susceptible to salt buildup, which reduces the system’s effectiveness and necessitates frequent and ongoing maintenance, making it significantly more expensive and inefficient. Russia conducts drills with nuclear submarines and land-based missiles

On Tuesday in Siberia, Russian nuclear submarines sailed off for training in the Barents Sea. At the same time, mobile missile launchers patrolled the snow forests, following President Vladimir Putin’s order to put his country’s nuclear forces on high alert due to tensions with the West over the invasion of Ukraine. Russia ramps up its censorship campaign, putting pressure on tech giants.

As Russia threatens Ukraine, the Russian government is stepping up its domestic censorship campaign by squeezing some of the world’s largest internet businesses. Russian officials informed Google, Meta, Apple, Twitter, TikTok, and other companies last week that they only had until the end of the month to comply with a new rule requiring them to establish legal businesses in the country.
