Nigerian authorities have announced a national census for the first time since 2006. Nigeria, the most populous nation in the African continent has announced its first census in 17 years which will begin by the end of March 2024 and will end in April 2024. Census in Nigeria was planned to be held in 2021 but was deferred by authorities citing instability and insecurity. The census would take place from 29 March 2024 to 2 April 2024. Japanese PM, Kishida, vowed to take effective steps to address the declining population at the opening of this year’s parliamentary session. While addressing the Parliament, National Diet, PM Kishida promised to actively take measures to address the declining population and it is a “now or never” situation for the nation. The Kenyan government has warned against the sale of unauthorised home DNA testing kits online. This comes after the ongoing social media debate over the home DNA sample collection kits going on sale for 800 shillings (₹525.26; US$6.45) with an additional charge to get results back from the lab. The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), Ministry of Health announced that no retailer is permitted to sell these kits and asked the customers to report such retailers, in case they come across any. Cities all over China are announcing new childbirth incentives as the country is set to experience a population decline since the two-year decline in 1960-61 due to the impact of the Great Famine. Based on official statistics, the population dropped by around 10 million in 1960, then 3.4 million in 1961, after which it recoiled by 14.4 million in 1962. Tech giant Microsoft withdraws Security updates for Windows 7 and 8.1 starting from January 10,2023. Although the customers will be given a choice to upgrade to a more recent OS version, like Windows 11, or remain unprotected against security update risks. Microsoft launched Windows 7 in October 2009 and reached its end of support in January 2015 and extended end of support dates in January 2020.
