About Mallikarjun Kharge
Kharge resigned as leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha to contest the presidential election of the Congress party. In these elections, he is facing a contest from party Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor.
Kharge met with Congress delegates to appeal for votes for him. He said that he believes in collective leadership. Kharge said that he only agreed to contest Congress’s presidential elections when Gandhi family members denied competing in Congress’s presidential elections. Many requests from party workers and senior leaders made him enter the election, he later added.
M Kharge also promised that if he is elected as party chief, he will work to implement every point of the Udaipur declaration. This decision was made four months ago in Chintan Shivir. He later added that he believes in collective leadership. He will take all decisions together with everyone.
Kharge accuses the BJP of buying MLAs
Kharge said that Congress always fights for people’s rights. He is in the fray against Shashi Tharoor until the Congress presidential election was over. He said both me and Shashi Tharoor have a common goal, to fight against the BJP.
During the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Congress came to power in six states. He also accused the BJP of stealing MLAs and making the government unstable. On one side they say that we don’t have a base and on the other side they steal MLAs from the elected government of Congress, he added.
M Kharge’s name was not suggested by the party’s interim chief Sonia Gandhi, a senior leader of the Congress party clarified on Tuesday.
“This is a rumor that interim chief Sonia Gandhi suggested my name. I never said this. She had already stated that no one from the Gandhi family would be voting or supporting any candidate,” he added.
