During the advancing military attack by Russia on Ukraine, hundreds of innocent people have died, a total of 816 (as of March 17th, 2022) to be precise. One of these innocent lives was that of a 21-year-old medical student from Karnataka, India.
Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagoudar, an Indian student studying at the Kharkiv National Medical University, Kharkiv, Ukraine, was killed in Russian shelling while standing in a queue to buy food. On Saturday, Naveen’s father informed him that they had decided to donate Naveen’s body for medical research.
The 21-year-old MBBS student was a resident of Haveri district in Karnataka. He was a victim of the 1st March Russian shelling. After almost 3 weeks of the student’s unfortunate death, his body will arrive at the Bengaluru airport at around 3 am. The body will then be transported to his village by 9 am and pooja will be done as per the Veera Shaiva tradition.
Then the body will be kept for public viewing for a little while, and later it will be donated to a local hospital called SS Hospital located in the Davanagere area of Karnataka for medical studies. Naveen’s father added that they had received a message from Haveri district court as well as Emirates flight service and that they were feeling relieved that the body of their son was being brought back.
The cm also contacted the family and expressed gratitude. He will also be accompanying the family to the airport and their village as well. In the aftermath of Naveen’s death, his family blamed the system for his son not getting admission to India despite securing 97% in PUC. The government has paid 25 lb in compensation to the victim’s family and also promised a job for a family member.
