On Monday around 11:30 pm a four-storey building collapsed in Kurla, Mumbai. BMC official confirmed that three people have died and twelve people are injured. 13 individuals have been pulled from the rubble and transferred to nearby hospitals.
Two men, 28 and 30 years old, were taken to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. They were announced dead on arrival, local officials confirmed. Aditya Thackeray, Shiv Sena’s leader also arrived as soon as the incident took place. Taking stock of the rescue effort being carried out by the team from the National Disaster Response Fund and the fire department.
A wing of the building collapsed in the Naik Nagar Society, while another wing was evacuated as it too is dilapidated, officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. Search-and-rescue operations are under way. Later in the day, Nineteen people were declared brought dead at hospitals.
Another Maharashtra Minister Subhash Desai announced that every deceased person’s family will receive Rs 5 lakh. Also the injured will be given treatment free of charge.
Praveena Morajkar, former local corporator, stated that the building’s inhabitants and three others in the neighbourhood had received notices to depart. But those who were staying on rent did not comply. The possessor of the building still remains unknown.
