The case has been registered and the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad informed.
Popularly known as Bulldozer Baba the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has received a death threat over a call. The caller had used a toll-free number 112. This toll-free number belongs to the Uttar Pradesh Police and is meant for use in times of emergency by the public.
The caller identified as Rihan, even texted the social media handle of the Uttar Pradesh Police, that he would be soon killing the Chief Minister of the state. The display picture of the caller’s account had a photo that said, ‘Allah’. The police of Sushant Golf City have registered the case under IPC sections 506 and 507 Acts and 66 IT Act.
At the beginning of April, he received a similar death threat along with the Prime Minister. It was later found that a sixteen-year-old Bihar boy was after it. The boy was then produced at a juvenile court in Noida and later granted bail. Reportedly, Kerala BJP chief K Surendran received a letter that bore a plan to assassinate PM Modi. The accused has been identified as Xavier, said the Police.
India has been watching a fashion of death threats being received by actors, singers and politicians and even occurrence of death in a few cases. Although it is not new for politicians to be in such positions, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister occasionally incites controversies and is often targeted by the opposition. Not so surprisingly Prime Minister Narendra Modi was threatened too by a letter contemplating a suicide bomb attack on him during his Kochi visit.
Subsequently, the Atiq Ahmed murder under police surveillance, has pointed towards the state’s involvement in the crime. Atiq’s supporters and some religious fanatics had been after the CM for his ways of ending the Mafia Raj. Many even say that the state has become more of a ‘Matsya Nyaya’ than a constitution-bound entity.
Yogi Adityanath, however, marvels that the law and order of his state under the BJP has improved substantially. His remarks come days after Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead before live cameras. While CM Yogi identifies as a Hindu nationalist and a revivalist, the constitution stands abolished in his state according to some public intellectuals. Consequently, his insistence on Hindu Rashtra has earned him the ire of many.
The Chief Minister further deliberates that there were more than seven hundred riots from 2012 to 2017 but not a single riot took place from 2017 to 2024, no curfew was imposed even once and no mafia can threaten any businessman in his leadership, guaranteeing the best security to Uttar Pradesh.
Attacks on politicians although generate great outrage they do not attract policy measures and the existing measures are not pre-emptive. The assassination of Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and the recent assault attempt on PM Fumio Kishida are examples of security issues being overlooked.
India however has a painful history of assassination of politicians, be it that of Mrs Indira Gandhi or her son Rajiv. Great political and social instability can be spurred all over the nation, and violence is incited against certain sections, the aftermath of which stands in forms like Khalistan today and dissensions once exploited can be irreparable.
