FC Barcelona hopes Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong will be a suitable replacement for Messi and Neymar.
Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong are on the field to fill some big boots for FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona lost the most valuable player Lionel Messi recently. Also, the void left by Neymar’s in 2017 through his departure remains unfilled at Camp Nou.
And it is believed that the arrival of Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong may help Barcelona fill the hollow space left behind by those magical players.
Memphis Depay covering up Messi’s void?
M. Depay arrived this summer with the support of Ronald Koeman, Association Football Manager of Barcelona.
This Dutch manager personally recruited his fellow citizen, and his self-confidence was reimbursed all of a sudden by the player.
Memphis has already scored an astounding seven goals in the 2021/22 season. Two of those goals were achieved for Barcelona, while another five came in only three games for the national team.
Barcelona had been in shortage of money, and they did not have much to work with when it came to the summer transfer market. They crash into an enormous bargain by fetching Memphis on a free transfer from the French side Lyon.
The situation forced Lionel Messi to ply his trade somewhere else after the Blaugrana was unsuccessful in finding a way to accommodate his salary. Even with a significant pay cut, Barcelona could not manage to pay for holding their captain. That results in Messi moving on to Paris Saint-Germain.
Presently, Memphis has been brightening the pitch for Barcelona, and it gives credit to Koeman for his genius move. Memphis is also offering quite the replacement for departed Barcelona star player Lionel Messi.
It looks likely to turn out to be the totem of a new era at the Catalan club. Nobody could replace the position of Messi, but Memphis started with some moves to overcome that.
Luuk de Jong dangerous than Neymar?
In the meantime, the club’s attainment of Luuk de Jong, another Dutch player, is offering FC Barcelona to finally free from the vast void left by Neymar. Koeman said, “When there’s a cross coming in, Luuk is more dangerous than Neymar”.
He added, “He’s a different kind of forward to what we have, and I think all teams should have one like him”.
Koeman also announced that they planned to bring in Luuk de Jong earlier last summer, but they could only manage the deal at the last minute this year.
He also mentioned that the exit of Antoine Griezmann made it more vital to bring in a new forward.
Barcelona had officially represented Luuk de Jong as the player at the Camp Nou following his move from Sevilla on loan for the rest of the season.
He said in the press meet that he is so glad to play for Barcelona and spoke about the excellent relationship that he shares with his compatriots- Memphis and Koeman.
He knows Memphis, and they have played together for the national team; and also said that they could express themselves within themselves using the language of football. He knows Frenkie de Jong as well.
Barcelona depends on these two players to fill the void left by the players left, and Memphis and Luuk are working hard.
