On Friday, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today searched over 20 locations, including the apartment of Manish Sisodia Deputy CM of Delhi, over the Centre’s declaration of corruption in the Delhi liquor policy.
Manish Sisodia’s Statement
Sisodia, in a tweet, confirmed the expansion. “CBI has come. We are extremely honest. Making the future of millions of children. It is very hapless that those who do good work in our country are strained like this. That is why our country has not yet become number one.”
How Was This Done?
A surrender of Rs 144.36 crore was given to the liquor cartel, citing the Covid pandemic as the reason, for the licence fee tender.
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) claimed that this would have resulted in commissions and rebounds. It has also been professed that the cabinet wasn’t kept in the loop when this one-time waiver was given.
Sisodia then supposedly asked the cabinet to take a decision authorising him to squeeze the policy so that waiver of licence fee tender could be implemented, which was already flagged by the LG. The cabinet then allowed to withdraw its earlier decision and authorised Sisodia to execute the one-time waiver.
It has been alleged that an attempt was made to decriminalize an illegal decision post-facto.
The Cabinet note for a cabinet meeting at 2 pm on July 14, 2022, reached the chief secretary at 9:30 am. No cabinet note was circulated and, ideally, this should have been sent to the LG 48 hours in advance. This reached the LG office at 5 pm to “help Sisodia”.
Kejriwal shared a tweet of an article on Delhi’s education model featuring in the New York Times, saying that on a day when Sisodia’s picture was printed on the “front page of America’s largest newspaper…Manish’s house Centre sent CBI”.
Anurag Thakur, Union minister hit back at the AAP, saying that this is not the first case of corruption against the party. He further admitted that despite Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in May in a money laundering case, Kejriwal did not suspend him. “The real face of AAP, Kejriwal, and Manish Sisodia has come in front of the public.”
