DMK cadre from Manali, Chennai, found murdered and disposed of in the Adyar river.
CHENNAI: Partial remains of a 65-year old DMK party worker were found in a Royapuram home stuffed in a gunny bag on the 14th of May. Police later identified the deceased as S Chakrapani who had suffered extensive injuries before his death. Nagendran, the Victim’s son reported him missing on the 11th of May after not seeing or hearing from him.
Police apprehended Thameem Banu(39), her brother Washim Basha(35) and his friend Dilip Babu (29)for the crime.
This was due to Nagendran’s reports of spotting a motorbike belonging to his missing father at Banu’s Grace Gardens home. He also reported a foul odour emitting from the premise. Banu’s testimony claimed that when Nagendran arrived at her home as part of his search for his father when a fight broke out. On the other hand, Banu denied having any altercations with the victim in her initial testimony.
Police, however, paint a very different picture in the final version of events leading up to the murder. The investigation reveals that Chakrapani loaned Thameem Banu money in 2019. Both of them resided in Manali at the time. Chakrapani made his final visit to collect debt on May 10th, the day he died.
The third accused member, Dilip was a neighbour and friend of Wasim. The 29-year old auto-rickshaw driver aided in disposing of the body.
Reports suggest that an argument broke out between the two parties when Chakrapani attempted to harm Thameem Banu. Her brother, Wasim then shoved the victim, causing him to hit his head on the wall. After this, the siblings allegedly stabbed the man to death.
Police say that the motive was over a loan-related argument, but some reports speculate retaliation over sexual harassment towards Banu.
