Russian troops have taken control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak said the “intentional attack” on Thursday was “one of the worst threats in Europe today.”
The Chernobyl explosion in 1986 led to the worst nuclear disaster in human history, both costly and dangerous.
The President of Ukraine has warned that such a catastrophe could happen again if Russia continues its offensive.
“Our defenders risked their lives to prevent the 1986 tragedy,” President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote earlier on Twitter.
“This is a declaration of war against the whole of Europe.”
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has also warned of possible “another natural disaster” on the site.
During the operation of the Russian military, the President of Ukraine creates an anti-Russian coalition against President Vladimir Putin.
He said, ‘he had spoken to French President Emmanuel Macron, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Karl Nehammer, about concrete sanctions and practical assistance.”
“We are allying against Putin. I have spoken to @vonderleyen, @ EmmanuelMacron, @karlnehammer, and @RTERdogan about tougher sanctions and the practical help of our military.
Earlier in a series of tweets, the Ukrainian President said he would provide weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country and lift sanctions on all Ukrainian citizens who are ready to defend the country.
“We will provide weapons to anyone who wants to protect the country. They are determined to support Ukraine in the squares of our cities,” Zelensky tweeted.
“We will lift sanctions on all Ukrainian citizens who are ready to defend our country as part of protecting the environment with weapons in hand,” Zelensky added.
Shortly after Russia launched its military campaign in the Donbas region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced to sever his country’s ties with Moscow.
“We have severed ties with Russia. For all those who have not yet lost their conscience in Russia, it is time to go out and protest against Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
He said Russia had fraudulently attacked Ukraine this morning and compared the pact with Nazi Germany.
“Russia attacked our empire subtlety this morning, as did Nazi Germany in # 2WW.,” added Zelensky.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba urged his allies to have strong ties with Russia.
“Ukraine has severed ties with Russia. I urge all our partners to do the same. With this concrete step, you will show that you represent Ukraine and completely reject the violence that has taken place in Europe since WWII,” Kuleba tweeted.
