Paswan says LJP won’t contest Bihar bypoll but hopes alliance in Lok Sabha elections
On Monday, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president said that the party will not contest the upcoming bypolls in the Mokama and Gopalganj Assembly constituencies in Bihar. He said that there would be no coalition in which the JD(U) is a partner.
At a meeting of its national executive, he said the party had decided to contest the next Lok Sabha election as a part of the coalition.
Party fielded 137 candidates in the 2020 Assembly polls that caused reduction in the seats of the JD(U)’s tally.
“I don’t think there should be any confusion about which coalition LJP supports. I have always opposed the policies made by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. So there is no chance of getting the support of Chirag Paswan and LJP to form a coalition where CM Nitish Kumar is present,” Chirag told a press conference.
Bypolls will be held on November 3, on two seats. The RJD has fielded candidates in both these seats. After the death of Gopalganj MLA, Subhash Singh of the BJP, and due to the disqualification of the RJD’s Mokama legislator, Anant Singh. These two will be fielded.
LJP would not contest Lok Sabha election Solo
“In the next elections, it is pre decided that in the next Lok Sabha or the Assembly elections, the LJP (Ram Vilas) would not go solo. The decision on which coalition to join would be taken closer to elections. The severing ties with the NDA had triggered the churning, which eventually culminated in the split of the LJP founded by his father, former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan ” Chirag Paswan said to reporters.
Chirag’s uncle, Union minister Pashupati Kumar Paras, heads the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti party. He has support of five MPs out of six MPs elected from the undivided LJP 2019. While, Chirag Paswan is the only member of the Lok Sabha from his faction.Â
“Today, right now, my focus is on strengthening the party. There is no value of coalitions in Bihar today. Parties will contest elections as part of one coalition and then to enjoy power, they run governments with another,” he said.
He stated that there would be no association with the JD(U) of LJP (Ram Vilas) .
Chirag Paswan had left the NDA before the 2020 Assembly elections, but now he is indicating that he is open to returning to the NDA.
Requested to impose President’s rule in the state
Meanwhile, claiming crime and corruption were at their peaks, a resolution was passed in the meeting demanding the imposition of President’s rule in the state, because of the “personal ambitions and wrong policies of CM Nitish Kumar” which made common people to suffer the most.
Further, Chirag Paswan also announced that the LJP (Ram Vilas) would also field candidates in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.
