At an event in Chennai on Thursday, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin proposed to make Tamil as an official language like Hindi, while sharing the stage with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Make Tamil the official language like Hindi and the official language in Madras High Court,” said the Chief Minister. The Chief minister which came to power last year, demanded and official and administrative language status for the Tamil language.
MK Stalin also urged the Centre to acknowledge the bill to exempt the state from the national entrance come eligibility test. He also stated that the bill has not yet been forwarded to the Centre by the Governor R N Ravi. He had also earlier returned the bill after nearly 200 days and adopting the bill again, the Tamil Nadu assembly again send it back to the Governor so that he shall forward it to the Centre.
The exemption from the medical entrance exam NEET, is opposed by the Tamil NÄdu Government with an argument that the exam only favors those who can afford private coaching and due to that the poor students, who live in villages, lose that opportunity.
PM Modi also praised the Tamil language as eternal, at the event in Chennai.
MK Stalin also urged the Prime Minister, and said, “I would request you to allot more funds and projects to our state Tamil Nadu, in the true spirit of co-operative federalism.” The event was conducted at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday it was stated by Stalin Tamil should be the official language of Madras High Court.”
At the event PM Modi, laid the foundation of 11 projects worth rupees 31,500 Crore in the City. The CM was speaking both in Tamil and English language.
He also added that, āWe will extend a hand of friendship at the same time we will raise our voice for our rights,ā Stalin has already raised the demand to make the mail and official language several times during his CM period.
In the context, Prime Minister said that the Centre is fully committed to popularize Tamil language and culture. Stalin also claimed that Tamil NÄdu growth is not just to do with economy but also includes social justice and women empowerment with equality.
āTamil Nadu is a leading state in terms of economic growth, excellent rural healthcare facilities, large number of institutions and highly skilled human resources. Our state is a pioneer not only in economic and other related factors but also in social justice, equality, and women empowerment. Tamil Nadu is a state for inclusive growth, this is what we call the Dravidian Model,ā Stalin said.
Stating an array of demands, CM demanded from the union government to increase the contribution to the schemes and fund allocation so that justice could be done to the developed states of the country like Tamil NÄdu and contribute in the development and economy.
On par with the Hindi language, the CM demand to make Tamil as the official language of the Union and also recognize it as the High Court language of Madras. PM Modi also claimed that in each and every field Tamil Nadu is excelling.
āWe have gathered here to celebrate yet another glorious chapter of Tamil Naduās development journey,ā the PM noted, listing down the projects that were going to be inaugurated at the event. He also stated about the central Institute of classical Tamil which was inaugurated in Chennai, in January.
He further stated that the National Education Policy allows the youngsters to pursue technical and medical courses in local languages which intern promote Indian languages and Tamil Nadu can be benefited from this.
The Chief Minister also appeals to the government to return the central GST dues of rupees 14,006 crores to the state. “Tamil Nadu is a leading state in terms of economic growth, rural health facilities, and educational institutes”, Stalin added.
PM Modi also launched redevelopment projects of the railway station which will be completed at a cost of rupees 1800 crore so that the comfort and convenience of the passengers could be enhanced through modern amenities.
