In 1884, Angelo Moriondo was credited with patenting the first known espresso machine. Angelo Moriondo, born on June 6, 1851, in Turin, Italy, came from a family of entrepreneurs “who never ceased brewing new ideas or enterprises,” according to a Google note on the fantastic innovator.
Moriondo’s grandfather created a liquor manufacturing enterprise, which his father then oversaw. Moriondo and his brother and cousin also founded the well-known chocolate company “Moriondo and Gariglio.”
During the inventor’s lifetime, brewed espresso was at its pinnacle of popularity in Italy. But on the other hand, coffee drinkers were inconvenienced since they had to wait a long time for their beverage to brew. Moriondo’s espresso machine was awarded a bronze medal at the General Expo of Turin in 1884.
