The Commonwealth Games 2022 will be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8. Neeraj Chopra, who is the defending champion of the Tokyo Olympics and a Gold Medalist has been selected for the 37-member squad nominated by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Adille Sumariwalla President of AFI expressed his confidence in the team and said it will do well in CMG 2022. Neeraj Chopra, DP Manu, and Rohit Yadav the three male javelin throwers are there on the team and the team of triple jumpers includes Abdullah Abubakar, Praveen Chitravel, and Eldhose Paul.
President AFI requested the Indian Olympic Association to assist in securing accreditation for a couple of athletes to increase the quota by one. A few subjects are introduced to prove the athlete’s fitness and form before the D-Day.
Summariwalla also states, “Tajinderpal Singh Toor Shot Putter has to discharge his duties well in Kazakhstan and Amoj Jacob selected for 4x400m because of his recovery and fitness level.” The President of AFI said, “Avinash Sable, Seema Punia-Antil, and Neeraj Chopra are undergoing training abroad.
Summariwalla said, “Seema’s Punia’s performance in the USA is the participation key in the CWG because she skipped the June 10-14 National Inter-State Senior Championship which had made her capable of qualifying event for CWG selection. “But we have allowed her considering her records in Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. And She will go to the USA for the training as well as to compete.

The team of Men includes Neeraj Chopra, DP Manu, and Rohit Yadav for Javelin Throw; Sandeep Kumar and Amit Khatri for Race Walking; Amoj Jacob, Nirmal Tom, Arokia Rajiv, Muhammad Ajmal, Naganathan Pandi and Rajesh Ramesh for 4×400 relay; Avinash Sable for 3000m Steeplechase; Abdulla Aboobacker, Pravin Chithravel and Eldhose Paul for Triple Jump; Nitender Rawat for Marathon and M Sreeshankar and Muhammed Anees Yahiya for Long Jump.
