Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury writes an apology letter to President Draupadi Murmu over his “Rastrapatni” remarks.
Congress leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote an apology letter to President Droupadi Murmu, over his ‘Rashtrapatni’ remarks. He claimed he regrets the controversy erupted by his mere slip of the tongue.
He waited all day for an appointment with the President to convey his apology and provide an explanation in person, Sources said. However, getting nowhere on it, he wrote a letter of apology.
In his apology letter, he wrote “I am writing to express my regret for having mistakenly used an incorrect word to describe the position you hold. I assure you that it was a slip of the tongue. I apologise and request you to accept the same.”
Chowdhury also wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The letter demanded obliteration of all the references made by Smriti Irani on Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi over his Presidential remarks.
Massive Protests were seen in Lok Sabha by the ruling party BJP over Chowdhury’s remark. All the leaders called for an apology even by the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Women and Child Development Minister, Smriti Irani also argued that this was an insult to the entire tribal community of the country. Hence, demands an apology from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi over Chowdhary’s “Rashtrapatni” remarks.
In response to this Chowdhary wrote in the letter, “I wish to further highlight that Gandhi had nothing to do with this unfortunate episode. Yet, Irani and the ruling party deliberately dragged her name in this controversy. Irani behaved very inappropriately with Gandhi… I appeal to you that since Gandhi had nothing to do with this controversy, the entire episode mentioning her name may also be expunged,” he said.
Chowdhary also said he heard several times Irani addressing President Draupadi Murmu by her name without any regard to the stature or position she holds.
Claims
The demand for Chowdhary’s apology is being seen as a deviation by the ruling party BJP, for deviating from the real issues. The issue of Price rise is meant to be discussed on Monday.
