PM Modi said that it seems that congress is against development as congress is accepting people who opposed the Sardar Sarovar Dam project on Narmada river which provides drinking and irrigation water with electricity to the people of Gujarat.
Hours after PM Modi attacked congress and Rahul Gandhi for having social worker and activist Medha Patkar, popularly known for the agitation against the Sardar Sarovar Dam project on the Narmada river in Gujarat. PM Modi said that it seems that congress is against development as congress is accepting people who opposed the Sardar Sarovar Dam project on Narmada river which provides drinking and irrigation water with electricity to the people of Gujarat.
In response to these comments of PM Modi, congress incharge of Gujarat Raghu Sharma said that PM Modi wants to deviate attention of people from the main issues that people of Gujarat are actually facing.
Congress being cautious as Rahul Gandhi to Address rallies in Gujarat Today
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is going to address rallies in Rajkot and Surat in Gujarat for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections 2022. Congress party does not want any kind of controversies that can affect the outcome of elections as well as these rallies. Congress Gujarat incharge Raghu Sharma said that “who built the dam?” It was Jawaharlal Nehru who initiated the project and now PM Modi wants to take all credits for that. He said that why PM Modi is not talking about unemployment, covid related deaths, illicit liquor, and the atmosphere of fear in Gujarat.
Importance of Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada river
The Sardar Sarovar Dam built on the Narmada river is now an important part of life for the people of Gujarat. The People of Kutch and Saurashtra are mainly benefiting from the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The Dam provided irrigation water for the first time in summers and that is the reason PM Modi and BJP Gujarat is trying to make it an issue.
PM Modi said that Congress is against development and against the people of Gujarat who are flourishing because of water and electricity provided by the Dam. The Sardar Sarovar Dam affected the lives of thousands of people by displacing them, but now it is being fruitful to lakhs of people in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
The Sardar Sarovar Dam helps in irrigating 17,920 km2 (6,920 sq mi) of land spread over 12 districts which can fetch a good number of votes. The Gujarat government is also providing solar power to the surrounding villages.

Medha Patkar: The name that can damage more than helping
Medha Patkar is the name that has been in news in Gujarat for the last two days and it is unlikely that BJP is going to drop this name. Congress that is confident about winning or giving a tough fight to BJP is also being very defensive on the Medha Patkar issues as this name is going to help less and damage more. She is being portrayed by the BJP as saying that because of her, the Supreme Court of India gave the decision to stall the project and reduce the height of the dam.
Outcome of statements given by PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi
As there is very much less time left in the Gujarat assembly elections 2022, it is evident for both the parties to avoid controversies and unwanted attention, that can lead to gliding of voters in favor of the opposition. PM Modi does not want any stone unturned that can lead to fetching more votes for the BJP and a landslide victory in the Gujarat assembly elections 2022.
Rahul Gandhi and the congress party on the other hand does not want any attention or diversification of the attention of people from the main issues to controversies. BJP knows that scraping the old wounds can help the party to gain sympathy of people who are benefiting from the Sardar Sarovar Dam project. Congress party leaders are saying that anyone can join the Bharat Jodo Yatra and BJP should talk about the main issues.
Today, when Rahul Gandhi will address rallies, probably he will also give clarification about the same as the Narmada project/ Sardar Sarovar Dam is a flagrant issue for the people of Gujarat. The Congress and BJP are now in a direct fight in Gujarat as said by both parties leaders after sidelining the presence of the AAP party.
