Over the last week, two women – Nargis, 23, and Renu, 42- were killed in Delhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal requested the Home Minister and the Lieutenant Governor to make the police actively participate in safeguarding the law and order of the State. He wrote on Twitter that the safety of the citizens of Delhi including that of its daughters is very important.

Brutal Murder of a Young Woman on Friday
A 28-year food delivery agent Irfan murdered his cousin Nargis (25) on Friday after she refused to marry him. Her bludgeoned body was found in a south Delhi park, near Sri Aurobindo College. An iron rod was discovered near her body.
Nargis had allegedly turned down Irfan’s marriage proposal citing his unsteady employment. This infuriated the accused. The police claim that Irfan was dejected and could not find another suitable marital match for himself.
Irfan Stalked the Victim for 3 days.
Nargis had graduated in Hindi Honors from Kamala Nehru College of Delhi University. Her brother Sameer told the media outlets that she was preparing for government jobs. She was also taking training in stenography in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar.
Irfan knew Nargis’s schedule. The police said that he had been stalking her for three days before committing the brutal murder on Friday. He caught hold of Nargis while she was returning from her steno classes. He said that he wanted to talk to her but she refused. He, then, pulled out the iron from his bag and bit the woman to death.
The accused had brought the iron rod from his house. He tried to meet the victim even on Monday but was unable to do so. The police are verifying all his claims.
The victim’s father who is a motor mechanic has demanded justice for his daughter.
Another Woman was shot dead in Delhi, on Thursday.
On Thursday night, 42-year-old Renu Goyal was shot in her head in southwest Delhi’s Dabri area. She was immediately rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, she was declared dead on arrival. She was shot by a 23-year-old man named Ashish.
The Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police (Dwarka) said that they received information regarding the incident of murder, around 9:45 P.M. They found out that a middle-aged woman had been shot. They deployed several police units to nab the suspect.
Personal enmity between Renu and Ashish has been cited as the prime cause of this murder. Renu and Ashish knew each other from their local gym. They had met 2-3 years ago. The police will be conducting further investigation on this matter.
The police informed that the killer was on foot when he shot the woman’s head at point-blank range.
Renu was a housewife. She has been survived by her three children and husband.
The police informed the media that the accused committed suicide too. In a statement, they said when a team sent to nab the accused, reached a nearby house where the accused lived with his parents, they found that the killer had shot himself too with a country-made pistol.
The police had rapidly identified the assailant from the CCTV footage of the crime scene.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) questions Delhi Police.
Sai Maliwal, the Chairperson of DCW has taken note of both incidents. In an interview given to ANI, she questioned Delhi Police’s role in preserving the city’s law and order. She asked, how many deaths were necessary for the Central Government to fix Delhi Police’s accountability.
She said that the National Capital has become extremely unsafe for women. Crimes are occurring in public spaces and under broad daylight.
She questioned the mentality of the Indians that commits such heinous crimes against women. Maliwal said that even if the names of the girls are changed in the newspapers, the crimes never seem to stop. She has informed ANI that the DCW is concerned about both the incident and issued notices to the Delhi Police.
