Well known South Korean rapper, Kim Hyo-jong aka DAWN released a fun, romantic and playful music video for his recent single, Stupid Cool.
Dawn released his latest single ‘Stupid Cool’ on 16th June, 6pm KST. DAWN used this song to express how he fell in love. ‘Stupid Cool’ not only describes his relationship with his lover, but also describes himself as “a stupid but cool” person in love. “Stupid Cool” was co-written by Kwon Philip who also wrote “Ping Pong,” his duet with HyunA.
With a heavy bass line and jazzy sax, he brings some rock vibes to his new single, this time with a variation. The lyrics of ‘Stupid Cool’ are endearing. Make sure you turn it up because this song may seem a little cheesy, but it is cool.
This is DAWN’s first solo release since his EP Dawndididawn, which was released in October 2020. His most recent release was a collaborative EP titled ‘1+1=1’ that he released with his fiance, HyunA, in September of last year.
As expected, he goes with unique and unconventional aesthetics for the music video; and the MV is colourful and cute. The IKEA bag-inspired outfits for the performances were unexpected.
Before the music video’s release From June 10 to June 12, nine image teasers were released for this new single on P NATION’s official social media account in sequence. The image teaser shows various DAWN charms sporting orange hairstyles. DAWN appears cool and edgy as he wears a hat, jacket, ring, necklace, and sunglasses.
HyunA, his fiance, shot all of the image teasers. Having gone public with their relationship in August 2018, the couple got engaged in February after dating for two years. A viewer is immediately drawn to the concept photos because the subject DAWN provides a picture of charming charm from HyunA’s perspective.
DAWN made numerous touching references to HyunA in his lyrics and music video. At (2:41) he presents the ring in the music video, with the words “MARRY ME” floating behind him. DAWN collaborated with jewellery designer Yueun Esther Shin to create his and HyunA’s unique engagement rings. DAWN announced their engagement on Instagram by posting a photo of the ring with the caption “MARRY ME.”
The ring is made of white gold with the main gem as opal. There are about seven diamonds on the band of the ring. He mentions the seven diamonds on their engagement rings in the song’s lyrics. “What more can I say, diamonds in seven colours, flex” he writes.
In another location, there is a background where ‘LIFE0510 0+4=143’ is written on a building. The 0510 refers to their anniversary; the couple began dating on May 10, 2016. And, the 143 represents “I like you.”
Through “Stupid Cool,” DAWN demonstrates his free-spirited performance, as well as his dynamic charm as vocalist, rapper, and producer. Heize posted on her Instagram Stories to support her labelmate DAWN’s new single ‘Stupid Cool,’ calling it “the world’s most hip love song”.
