The Special Cell of Delhi Police identified the two interstate illegal firearms suppliers and they have been identified as Brij Raj, 22 years old, and Jitender, 27 years old.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that the Special Cell had launched a targeted investigation against suppliers of illegal firearms in Delhi-NCR to combat the supply of large numbers of illegal arms to crime gangs and reduce incidents of crime related to arms and ammunition in the areas.
He said that during surveillance, a new syndicate of supply of firearms in Delhi was identified and it was further discovered that most illegal weapons enter Delhi from the areas of Khargaon, Dhar, Burhanpur (MP), and Badwani besides other areas in the country by the members of this particular syndicate.
On July 15, the Special Cell received clues that two arms suppliers who are residents of Rajasthan and supply arms to multiple gangs in Delhi, especially the Kala Jathedi gang will be traveling through the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar Mor, Bypass, GT Karnal Road with a large load of illegal arms.
Following up with this information, a police team was formed which then laid a trap at the specific location and went on to apprehend both the accused.
During their search, 16 sophisticated illegal firearms were recovered, the official said. The police have now registered a case under section 25 of the Arms Act of the Indian Code against the accused.
