The 20-year-old woman, Anjali Singh was hit by a car in outer Delhi and was dragged under it for kilometers. Delhi Police claimed according to the autopsy report, there were no injuries in the woman’s private parts. At Maulana Azad Medical College, the medical board conducted the post-mortem on Monday. According to them, this shows that there was no sexual assault.
Autopsy report of the woman–
“All of the injuries occurred as a result of a blunt force impact, maybe from a car accident or from being pulled. Also, according to the post-mortem report, there are no injuries that might be related to a sexual assault.” said Sagar Preet Hooda, special commissioner of police (Law and Order). The jeans and swab sample of deceased Anjali Singh, have also been preserved, the police said.
The post-mortem report states that shock and haemorrhage from injuries to the brain, spine, left femur, and both lower limbs are the provisional causes of death. The five men who were in the car have been detained and accused of ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’, rash driving and causing death by negligence. Police had already said they found no evidence of sexual assault.
The Case’s Key witness –
A person who can probably give information on what happened on the night of December 31 has come forward, the Delhi Police announced during a press conference earlier in the day. A senior police officer revealed during a press conference that a witness to the incident has come forward and that she was present when it happened with the victim.
According to Sagar Preet Hooda, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), her statement has been recorded in accordance with section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Nidhi, the woman who was riding her scooter behind the victim, was uninjured in the incident. She fled the scene of the accident because she was so terrified, the witness claimed.
The men in the car are said to have admitted to being drunk. They sped off in a hurry after hitting the scooter, not knowing a woman was being pulled after them. “The driver, Deepak Khanna, told police that he felt “something trapped” under the vehicle, but that other people had assured him that there was nothing there. One of the men first noticed an arm hanging out at a U-turn in Kanjhawala after the car had dragged the woman through the streets for 13 kilometers. They stopped the car, her body fell off, and they drove away.” When police re-mapped the path, the victim had travelled after leaving a hotel at 1.45 am on January 1 after attending a New Year’s celebration, they learned more about the accident. Close to the scene of the accident in Sultanpuri, CCTV footage saw two women leaving the hotel on a scooter.
After police reacted to calls from witnesses who observed the body being dragged, the case was revealed. One of those who called the police attempted to alert the men riding in the cars as well, and he followed them on a scooter but was unable to keep up.
The Accused Said Police-
According to the FIR, the car was twice-borrowed. The car involved in the accident belong to Lokesh, a resident of Budh Vihar. The police were informed by Lokesh that his brother-in-law Ashutosh had borrowed a car from him.
Ashutosh told the police that on December 31 at 7 p.m., his friends Deepak Khanna and Amit Khanna had borrowed the car from him. Manoj Mittal was the front passenger and Deepak was driving the car. At two in the morning, they hit the scooter near Krishan Vihar and ran away in terror toward Kanjhawla. On the Kanjhawla Road, they halted the car close to Jonti Village, where they found the woman underneath.
At five in the morning, they left her there and drove to Ashutosh’s house to return the damaged car. Ashutosh was informed that Amit and Deepak had drunk alcohol, according to sources. A dairy store owner later found the woman’s body, which was entirely naked and had hands and legs that were horribly bruised and broken.
Along with local protests about the safety of women on Delhi’s roadways, the tragedy has triggered a political battle between the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party, who are each blaming the other for the horrifying incident.
On Tuesday afternoon, the girl’s remains and the post-mortem results were given to her family. According to the victim’s uncle, they are satisfied with the post-mortem report’s conclusion that there was no sexual assault and are now bringing the body to the girl’s paternal home for funeral rites.
