Dewald Brevis shattered numerous records on his way to 162 runs off 57 balls
After reaching 162 off of 57 pitches in a T20 contest, Brevis became baby AB. At the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Monday afternoon, Dewald Brevis shattered numerous records on his way to 162 runs off 57 balls, which he used to help the Momentum Multiply Titans defeat the ITEC Knights by 41 runs.
The Titans massive total of 271 for three was chased down by the Knights, who managed to reach 230 for the loss of nine wickets.
Dewald Brevis displayed a T20 batting masterclass. Brevis scored 130 runs, 80 percent of which were boundaries, including 13 fours and 13 sixes.
A new record was also set throughout the encounter. The record for the most runs scored in a T20 match is now shared between the Titans and the Knights. 502 runs were scored by the two teams together.
Dewald Brevis and Jiveshan Pillay rose to the task when the Knights won the toss and ordered the Titans to bat first.
They gave the Titans a flying start and were in a combative mood as they sailed to a 50-run partnership in only 3.4 overs. In contrast to Brevis’ aggressiveness, Pillay served as the Titans saviour during the PowerPlay overs. After the PowerPlay, the Titans were on 63 for no wickets.
After being pummelling by a free-flowing Brevis for 10.3 overs, the kid holed out to Raynard van Tonder who was positioned at the boundary, giving the Knights the chance to remove him. Van Tonder struggled to keep his hand on the catch.
After a few more balls, Brevis surpassed Loots Bosman’s record. In the CSA T20 Challenge, Bosman previously held the record for the quickest 100. He needed 41 balls to reach his century. The century by Brevis required 38 deliveries. Additionally, Brevis century was the fourth-fastest century in T20 cricket.
Brevis and Pillay set the highest first-wicket partnership in the CSA T20 Challenge after 13.4 overs, breaking yet another record. The old record stood at 172. The combined total of Brevis and Pillay was 179 runs.
Off 44 deliveries, Pillay reached his half-century two deliveries after setting a record. Aubrey Swanepoel attempted to clear the fielder at the deep square boundary after Pillay was removed with another delivery.
Few T20 performances have been as impressive as this one by Dewald Brevis, who struck an astonishing 35 balls for a score of 100*.
Donovan Ferreira was the second man to enter. The Titans wanted to give the powerful hitter some time in the centre, so Ferreira was elevated to No. 3. Ferreira was making his way back from a medically necessary forced layoff.
Brevis accomplished another record-breaking feat soon after Ferreira arrived. With 126 runs, Quinton De Kock previously held the record for the greatest personal total in the CSA T20 Challenge. Brevis completed 128 deliveries in 45 seconds.
Brilliant catch
After 6.2 overs, Simon Harmer gave the Titans a breakthrough. Snyman was the first batter to get out. The seasoned campaigner attempted to clear the boundary but was foiled by a superb catch made by Dewald Brevis there.
He took a sensational catch on the mid-wicket boundary rope to help remove opener Jacques Snyman for 28 in the seventh over of the Knights run chase.
Brevis finished with statistics of 1/36 from two overs and added a wicket with his leg spin, dismissing Gerald Coetzee for 37 (11).
Brevis made a six-point save initially, then lobbed the ball back into play before diving to make a catch. Snyman was expelled for 28 out of 14. The Knights had a score of 72 to 1.
Raynard van Tonder was the following wicket to be removed. The third hitter for the Knights hardly got going before he was bowled by Neil Brand for a pitiful 12 from nine deliveries.
When the 26-year-old spinner dismissed the Knights captain Aubrey Swanepoel for a run-a-ball three, he had now taken two wickets in one over.
Gihan Cloete was dropped by Dayyaan Galiem after 2.4 overs when he was on 25 off 12. The Titans had another chance in the following over as Neil Brand came close to catching and bowling Cloete. Brand’s luck ran out as the ball did not stay to his hand.
The Titans most effective bowler, Neil Brand, had three wickets from four overs at an economy of seven runs per over. The second-best bowling performance belonged to Aaron Phangiso, who took two wickets from four overs with an economy rate of 11 runs per over.
Positive Thoughts By Dewald Brevis
“I’ve always desired to hit the ball as far as I can, even as a small lad.
“And for me, it’s always about being optimistic and courageous from the get-go. Avoid being careless; instead, take things slowly, keep a cheerful attitude, and live in the moment. I simply remained present.
“I’m constantly trying to push the boundaries. I believe that playing freely and passionately requires being in a really strong position. And you take the ball if it’s there.
Achievement
Dewald Brevis scores a century in men’s T20 cricket, becoming the youngest South African to do so. With the third-highest individual T20 score in history, this 19-year-old prodigy has shattered South African records.
