Huma Qureshi and Sonakshi Sinha starrer film ‘DoubleXL’ trailer is out on YouTube. Last time we saw these two was- Sonakshi in kalank, Dabangg 3, Mission Mangal in 2019; and Huma Quereshi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ in as a special appearance in the song “Shikayat,” and also recently in Maharani– an MX player web series. This is the first time we see Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi sharing the screen space.Â
The film’s director is Satram Ramani, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl, Saqib Saleem, Huma Qureshi, Mudassar Aziz and Firuzi Khan. It is also co-produced by Shiv Channa under banners of T-Series, Wakaoo Films, Element3 Entertainment and Reclining Seats Cinema.
The trailer reveals the first frame with a dream sequence where Shikhar Dhawan asks Rajshri Trivedi(Huma Qureshi) for a dance at a glamorous party, which gets cut when her mother wakes her up. She struggles to become a sports presenter and is also passionate about it. On the other hand, we have Sonakshi Sinha playing ‘Saira Khanna,’ who wants to make her brand a fashion designer. These women are similar in that they are being judged on their weight and the fact of being a woman. The movie seems to cover the journey of these two women achieving their big dreams and challenging the societal so-called “normal” standards.
I didn’t like the dialogue by Rajshri’s mother in the trailer when she said, “Ab Uthogi Ki Crane Mangwaye Uthane Ke Liye?” which means “, Are you going to get up or should I call the crane?” This shows how even parents get racist toward their children, following the societal standards of being average. In another scene, a man visits Rajshri’s house with his family to talk about their marriage and tells her, “Aap Mere Liye Thodi Heavy Ho.” It means that “You are overweight for me.” The man himself is skinny and commenting on a woman for being overweight shows the misogynistic angle of the men. These scenes have cliched dialogues, which we noticed in earlier movies.
What I liked about the trailer is that we see two similar characters working together in lead roles to take the story forward. Another one is in the last scene, Saira(Sonakshi) says, “Laundo Ko Bra Ki Size Badi-Badi Chahiye Lekin Kamar Itne Choti Si…Agar Humne Inse Kuch Chota Bada Mang Liya Toh Kaha Jaenge Ye?”; which means, “men demand big bra sizes with a smaller waist in a woman…if we (women) start demanding the sizes, then what will these men do?” I loved this dialogue as it stands out uniquely, and Sonakshi’s dialogue delivery is also very impressive in this scene.Â
Double XL is scheduled to release on 4th November 2022 at theatres.
