After Maharashtra, Kerala, and Karnataka, Tamil Nadu now has the fourth-highest number of confirmed cases in India. The largest single-day spike (30,987 cases) was reported on May 13, 2021. The pandemic has affected all 38 districts of the state, with Chennai, the capital, suffering the most.

Eight new cases of covid 19 were discovered in Tamil Nadu on February 19; however, the information about those who were affected was kept private.
On February 18, six people in Tamil Nadu tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. In addition to one each in Erode, Kancheepuram, the Nilgiris, and Tirunelveli, there were two cases in Chennai. After receiving treatment, eight patients were released. There were 41 people receiving treatment in the state, including 10 in Chennai. A total of 4,531 samples were tested in the state.
On Sunday, tests in Tamil Nadu revealed that up to six people had COVID-19. This brought the total number of patients receiving care to 51. Chennai and Chengalpattu both reported two new cases. There was one case each in Coimbatore and Thoothukudi. According to the daily health bulletin from the Directorate of Public Health, as many as 35,94,311 people have tested positive in the state thus far. In the state, eight individuals received discharges. With this, there have now been 35,56,211 recoveries overall. There were no recent deaths that the state reported. 38,049 people have died as a result of the infection to date.

Statement from health minister
According to Mr. Subramanian, the health minister, the state has immunized more than 96% of the population with the first dose and 91% with the second dose. “The Center had stated that people could receive free booster shots at government immunization clinics for 70 days. That period is over. As long as supplies last, the government has now given TN permission to offer vaccines. Nine lakh doses are still available, he said.
