Former West Ham loanee Jesse Lingard has signed a one-year deal with the newly promoted Premier League club.
Nottingham is one of the few clubs to get promoted to the Premier League this season. After 23 years of long wait, Forest has made it back to the elite level of English football. In this period of renaissance, Forest is looking to strengthen their side by adding new faces to its team.
On Thursday the club announced the signing of the Manchester United winger. The club has acquired the winger for the wage of 200,000 pounds per week. Jesse Lingard became the club’s ninth signing of this summer. Jesse Lingard went under medical tests this Wednesday and after the completion of the formalities. The club has announced the signing yesterday.
According to Guardian, the Midland’s club is also very keen to sign Burnley’s Maxwell Cornet. Even Everton was interested in signing the Ivory Coast forward on a loan, but the bid got rejected.
Several Premier League and MLS clubs were interested in sealing the signature of the 29-year-old English player. West Ham was one of the forerunners to sign Jesse Lingard. David Moyes was keen to have him back after that incredible loan spell with the Hammers.
East London club got hesitant in signing England international as they couldn’t meet the salary needs of the player. Lingard and his representatives demanded 180,000 pounds a week, but they thought they could land Lingard to the East London club with 150,000 pounds per week.
Lingard got really convinced to join Nottingham Forest when the club broke its financial structure to sign the player. After that even, West Ham increased the price, but till then Jesse set his sight on the eastern side of London.
It’s a very big disappointment for West Ham and David Moyes as they failed to sign their biggest target this summer. Moyes even rejected the signing of Villareal winger Arnaut Danjuma for Lingard. Moyes thought Lingard would have been a better fit for the squad as he could have made him play different positions in the attack.
Nottingham Forest has been incredible in this transfer window. They have signed two players from Bundesliga. They have also signed the English goalkeeper Dean Henderson and the Liverpool midfielder Neco Williams. Let’s see how will Premier League unfold for the newly promoted team.
