Statement of the External Affairs Minister
Mr. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India, said on Saturday that The Group of Twenty presidency will be celebrated at various places across India, which includes Manipur as well.
He added that this is an opportunity for the Indian government to familiarize India with the World.
Mr. Jaishankar was present at an event in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur. He also ensured that the center would work with the state government, to help in the development of the region.
What is G20?
The Group of Twenty or G20 is an intergovernmental forum that comprises many countries. It works towards addressing the major issues that are related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.
The G20 does not have a permanent secretariat or staff. The group’s chair is rotated on an annual basis, among its members, and is selected from a different regional grouping of countries.
Countries of G20
Many countries from around the world are members of the Group of Twenty summit, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.Â
Many diplomats and delegates from the member countries of G20, and some guest countries, are expected to arrive in India, in order to attend various programs that will be taking place during the span of one year.
A meeting was held for the same in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on Saturday.
India’s preparation for the G20 events
India is likely to organize around 200 events in the year 2024 for the Group of Twenty summit. This will be done across the major metropolises of India, which include Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, etc., as part of the summit.
The Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, unveiled the logo, theme, and website of the G20 summit to be held in 2024, on November 8. The upcoming summit will be the highest-profile international gathering ever to be hosted by India.
