Dumbledore’s first army, described as ‘a band of outsiders’ trying to save the world from Mads Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald, is the focus of a new featurette from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which includes commentaries from director David Heyman and some of the main cast, including Jude Law, Eddie Redmayne, and others.
A new featurette from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore by director David Heyman and some of the main cast including Jude Law, Eddie Redmayne, and more, highlights Dumbledore’s first army, who are called as a band of outsiders trying to save the world from Mads Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald.
The featurette includes fragments of conversations with Redmayne, Law, Jessica Williams (who plays Professor Eulalie Hicks, a teacher at Ilvermorny, an American wizardly school), director David Yates, and producer David Heyman. It also includes additional footage that teases the roles and missions of each member of the crew.
Dumbledore’s Army is well-known to everyone who has read the Harry Potter books or watched the films. However, a new Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore featurette confirms that the army that fans have grown to love wasn’t the first to come to Dumbledore’s rescue. The short discusses the beginnings of Dumbledore’s First Army with the help of the film’s producer, director, and stars.
The Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore featurette not only acknowledges their efforts, but also introduces fans to members of Dumbledore’s First Army, including Newt Scamander, Jessica Williams’ Lally Hicks, Victoria Yeates’ Bunty, William Nadylam’s Yusuf Kama, Callum Turner’s Theseus Scamander, and Dan Fogler’s Jacob Kowalski. “A band of misfits who get together to perform this objective,” director David Yates said of the group.
Warner Bros posted the three-minute-long Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore featurette on their social media accounts. It gives a behind-the-scenes look at how the film’s various characters come together for a shared cause. The actors and crew link the performance to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’s founding of Dumbledore’s Army. While they don’t have an official title, their purpose appears to be similar: destroy the enemy while collaborating with Dumbledore, the great wizard.
The Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore featurette includes an official introduction to Dumbledore’s First Army as well as glimpses of previously unseen video. There are some new amusing animals, spectacular action sequences, and huge fight scenes for fans to enjoy. With the film’s premiere less than a month away, it appears like the marketing campaign is in full swing.
The Fantastic Beasts franchise has fielded some criticism over its reluctance to explicitly portray the romance between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, which was heavily hinted at but never shown in the original Harry Potter books. But with the short Tv spot of the scene, that looks to finally change.
It continues the story of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a magizoologist who tracked lost creatures around New York City in the 2016 film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Fantastic Beasts 3, in theory, give proper depth and respect to the relationship that is now arguably at its heart; if Yates succeeds in doing so, it will be a watershed moment for onscreen LGBTQ+ representation, which is no small feat these days, especially in light of Rowling’s controversial anti-trans statements. Fans will have to wait and see what Fantastic Beasts 3 decides to do with the franchise.
Fantastic Beasts fans have eagerly anticipating the film’s arrival since the first trailer was revealed in December 2021.
