Following the Mar-a-Lago raid by the FBI, it has become the target of many republican outrages and threats of a ‘civil war’ by Trump supporters. While the FBI has repeatedly said that the raid was a warranted search, many republican and Trump supporters perceive this as a conspiracy, some even rooting into ‘deep state’ ideas.
Following the Mar-a-Lago raid, the FBI has become a target of scrutiny and threats in its own country. While the FBI has repeatedly claimed that the raid was not politically motivated, republican skeptics think otherwise. Yes, the FBI does have the right to carry on a warranted raid on the property. Still, the warrant does not necessarily have to say the criminal offenses of the perpetrator. Still, experts do agree that given the sensitive political nature of the raid, the warrant affidavit must have come from the highest ranking official the Justice Department has to offer. The search was to retrieve the classified documents which were moved to Donald Trump’s private residence from the office, which is also a clear violation of protocols as a President. The Department of Justice and The FBI alike are not willing to answer any questions about the raid or the retrieval of the classified documents, just yet.
The Backlash
As the news broke on Monday night, the republican outrage was well heard by the nation and the world. As the tweets flooded in calling the raid a “partisan witch hunt”, “weaponization of the Justice system”, “Third world bullshit”, “an abomination” and many more, the trump supporter did not confine themselves to the walls of Twitter.
Most trump supporters think of this raid as a conspiracy against Trump so that he cannot run for president in 2024, even though in reality it might not be possible for him to run for President at all, since he was Impeached in December.
But as many trump supporters say that the raid on Mar-a-Lago was like an attack on them and they will respond accordingly, even if it means civil war. A man named Ricky Shiffer, 42 tried to breach the FBI building in Cincinnati, Ohio as a response to the Mar-a-Lago raid and his loyalty to Trump, later in a firefight, he was shot and killed by the FBI.
It can become worse than it already is as many netizens fear an armed backlash against the FBI and the Trump opposition, with terms used like “civil war” and “tyranny” thrown around, many Trump supporters are calling for mass arrests and some even are calling for “Defund the FBI”. Experts are worried that it may actually create civil unrest as we saw during the Capitol riot, in that case, it can be devastating for the democratic fabric of the Nation.
The Right-wing misinformation channels like Gab, a popular social media among white supremacists, are littered with calls for arms rhetoric, a post that said all it takes is one call. And millions will arm up and take back this country. It will be over in less than 2 weeks. Another similar post tried to legitimise the violence by saying Let’s get this started! This unelected, illegitimate regime crossed the line with their GESTAPO raid! It is long past time the lib socialist filth were cleansed from American society!
The FBI Response
Looking at the political condition, the FBI is in a defensive stance. The FBI director Christoper Wray said, that he is always concerned about threats to law enforcement and violence against law enforcement is not the answer, no matter who they are upset with. Following the life-threatening circumstances in Ohio, the FBI is ramping up its security for people who are credible threats for assassination attempts. While there are talks about the possibility of investigating those threats – the probability of such investigation does exist, according to the severity of the threats.
