Fifty people including women and small children were killed by the gunmen in Nigeria. The incident took place at Owo in the afternoon when people came to attend mass in Church. It was an extremely heart-wrenching incident that claimed so many lives of people.
Use of Explosives to kill people
According to various local media reports and eyewitnesses of the incident said that the gunmen had fired recklessly and detonated explosives. The incident took place at Owo, a town in the Ondo state. Owo is situated about 345 km east of Lagos. The attack was targeted at the worshippers who went for attending Sunday morning mass at the Church.
The explosives had injured scores of people and fifty people died on the spot. The scores of people were immediately rushed to the local government-run hospital. Video footage inside the church has shown that many worshippers who were killed on the spot, lay dead in the pool of blood. Nigerian President Muhammad Buhari grieved over the incident and he highly condemned such actions of crime.
Richard Olatunde who is the spokesperson of the Ondo State Governor’s office said that the dynamite had explosives inside the church before the gunmen had started to open fire.

Nigeria still holds a long history of various attacks that takes place in many areas, towns, and districts of the country. The crime rate has been on the rise for the last few years. In the southwestern parts of Nigeria, such incidents are witnessed quite often.
The kidnapping of children and women is also one of the main crimes that are very prevalent in Nigeria. Nigeria has always struggled with security issues in the country but Owo has been a very peaceful place in the country. It is the first time that such an incident took place in Owo.
