The incident fueled sharp reactions on Twitter. A few passengers who could not board plane G8-116 slammed the airline for the alleged negligence on the social media site Twitter.
Passengers were taken in four buses to the aircraft. That left passengers waiting in one of the buses as the Go First plane took off, according to complaints on Twitter tagging the airline, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and prime minister Narendra Modi’s office.
The passengers had their boarding passes and their bags were all checked in. The passengers were reportedly accommodated on a plane that left four hours later, around 10 am.
The Twitter user said, “The 6.20 am plane took off leaving half of its passengers, as more than 50 passengers on one of the four airline buses were ‘ left on the ground’ while the plane flew away taking only three airbus passengers”.
Another Twitter user, Shreya Sinha, said, “Most horrifying experience with Go First airways 5:35 is the time we supposed to be boarded the bus for aircraft, now 6:30 am Still in bus stuffed with over 50 passengers, the driver stopped the bus after being forced. plane G8 116 takes off, leaving 50+ passengers. Heights of negligence!”
The plane left from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru around 6.30. The airline apologized on its official handle, saying “extended apologies to the passengers and sought their details, but did not explain the alleged incident”.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said today it is “looking into the matter” after many passengers slammed the airline on Twitter.
A DGCA official said in response that “we have sought a report from the airline and appropriate action shall be taken” The airline, however, has not put any statement on what appears to be a colossal blunder.
Sumit Kumar, a fellow passenger who works for autopact in Bengaluru, said the passengers were given an alternative flight of air India at 10.00 am.
According to Mr. Kumar, their bus was left near the gate when the others offloaded passengers near the plane. “The ground staff was checking whether the plane took off. They said initially the plane will return. I missed my meetings. This is going to be my last flight on Go First,”
In recent weeks, airlines have faced criticism over various infractions, keeping the regulator busy with inquiries.
