A flash flood has recently inundated Bagipul in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, leaving more than 200 people stranded. This group of people includes tourists and residents, stranded, according to an ANI report.
DSP Padhar of Mandi Police said, “A flash flood in Bagipul has inundated the area, leaving over 200 people, both tourists and locals, stranded.”
According to the report, the flash flood hit Bagipul, which is located on the banks of the Prashar lake, near the Baggi bridge on the Mandi Prashar Road.Further the DSP Sood said that the people are being evacuated to safer places to safer regions.
The road to Parashar before Kamand has been blocked due to floods after a cloudburst in Mandi around Baghi bridge, said by The Mandi police.
According to the Mandi police, a bus carrying students from Chamba, as well as many vehicles returning from Parashar, got stuck on the road. The police said that they have provided lodging for the students for the night as there is no chance of the road opening today.
Landslide Along with FloodÂ
Amid the flood situation, Himachal Pradesh has also been struck by the effect of landslides that have been reported at a number of places in the state between Charmile and Satmile on the National Highway (NH) between Pandoh and Mandi.
According to the police, the National Highway is currently closed and it will take some time to re-open.
Small vehicles from the nearby state of Kullu will now have to cross the NH chowk between Pandoh and Ner Chowk, which is a passageway for vehicles travelling from Kull to the national capital.
MANDI-KULLU road via Katola has been blocked due to a massive landslide near Kamand. The Mandi police said that the road is expected to reopen tomorrow. The police also said that there are around 25-30 vehicles stuck between the road and another place due to the landslide behind them. Mandi Police also tell that they are making arrangements for people to stay and are trying to clear the debris during the night.
The Mandi police also said that several parts of Kangra city in Himachal have been affected by water logging due to heavy rainfall.
As per the Mandi police all the cautious roads are blocked due to severe weather conditions with continuous rains and flash floods near Khoti Nala in Aut.
Action of Police After The Flood Situation
The highway is also blocked on all other alternate routes. The mandi-joginder nagar highway has also been closed. The police warned the general public and tourists traveling on these highways to avoid the roads near the mountains due to the high risk of a landslide or rock fall. The police said that the highway is likely to open tomorrow. Also,the police advised all the stranded either on side to turn or to go ahead back to make the necessary arrangements to spend the night in the nearby towns.
The IMD Himachal has issued a Flash Flood Risk Warning for 24 hours on Sunday. The IMD has also issued a Weather Alert for the next 5 days for the state. On June 25 and 26, heavy rainfall, storm and lightning are expected at isolated locations over plains, low and middle hills. The IMD said that flash floods are likely in the Kangra district, Mandi district and Solan district. Traffic congestion, low visibility and disruption of electric supply are expected.
Significantly, continuous rains in the past 24 hours have wreaked havoc in several areas of Mandi. A few vehicles were washed away in a flash flood in the Janjheli river in Mandi.
The water level of the Beas river which flows through Mandi has also risen due to incessant rains in hilly areas of the state. In the past 24 hours Mandi recorded 64.4 mm rainfall.
In other parts of the state, the rains caused huge damages. In the national capital, Shimla, a cloudburst was reported in the wake of heavy rains.
