On March 10, Samantha Prabhu attended the Critics’ Choice Awards in Mumbai. For the event, she donned a stunning black and emerald green gown, pairing it with pointed heels.
The young actress boldly claps back at her trolls and asks people to “stop judging women based on their hemlines and necklines.”
In an Instagram post following the appearance, Samantha Prabhu shared her picture in the attire. Soon after, the comment section became a target of trolls where people commented calling her “besharam” or comparing her to a “third-grade vamp”.
“Are Indian women of your profession involved in a bare-chested competition? What happened to the Indian culture and traditions? Gobbled up by the western influence, I think. Can you walk on the streets of India in this attire?”, a user commented.
Later on, Prabhu reacted to these trolls. Taking to Instagram, Samantha Prabhu penned down a long note and called out them for their behavior, asking them to “focus on bettering ourselves.” She shared that the easiest thing one can do is to make snide comments on others and that “turning that judgement inward and training it on oneself is evolution.”
“As a woman, I bear firsthand knowledge of what it means to be judged. We judge women based on what they wear, their race, education, social standing, appearance, skin tone, and the list goes on and on. Making snap judgements about a person simply based on the clothes they wear is quite literally the easiest thing one can do.” Read Samantha’s note
Through her note, she urged people to “Now that we’re in the year 2022—can we finally stop judging a woman based on the hemlines and necklines she adorns and focus instead on bettering ourselves?”
She continued, “Turning that judgement inward and training it on oneself is evolution. Projecting our ideals onto someone else never did anyone any good. Let’s gently rewrite the way we measure and understand a person. “
Sharing another set of photos in the same outfit she captioned the post “one of my favourite looks.”
