Wants ‘to be respected’
Courteney Cox is well-known worldwide for her role as Monica Geller in the famous sitcom Friends, through which she reached the essence of fame. Cox made it a big hit with Monica Geller’s character on the sensational sitcom Friends alongside co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer.
However, the actor recently expressed her aspiration to go beyond the criterion set by the iconic character.
While speaking to Los Angeles Times, Courteney Cox mentioned she wishes to ‘make a mark’ and not just from one character but other characters and other successes. I have a lot more to show. I have a lot more to do.
An enthusiastic social media user, Courteney often engages with her fans as she shares a sneak peek of her life.
During the interview, Cox opened up about at the beginning of her career; all she wanted to do was ‘get a job’; she was clueless about the kind of actor she wanted to be.
She revealed her imperfections as an actor; and shared, “I didn’t have much confidence to stretch myself, to push myself.
“I didn’t try for things much as an Actress, I am not a lazy person at all, and that is something I always regret, but I also didn’t want to put myself in a position where I felt out of my depth.”
The Scream actress went on and revealed what she had regretted the most in her career.
“Now, I want to be respected; I want to be seen as somebody who has been around for a long time and is challenging themselves, as opposed to we know her.”
The Cougar Town actress admitted her love for her character in Friends
“I want to be remembered as Monica, But I’d also like to have something else that she did not want to be limited to just that one role.
Following the Friends reunion last year, Cox recently returned to another prominent role – that of Gale Weathers in the new Scream film.
Reuniting with co-stars Neve Campbell and David Arquette, the fifth film in the franchise proved to be a big success, with a follow-up already given the green light to begin filming this summer.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are set to direct again, while James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will write the script.
Elsewhere, Cox finally received an Emmy nomination last year after being the only cast member to never receive one during the show’s original run, though this time for co-executive producing Friends: The Reunion.
Speaking on the news, she admitted to Entertainment Weekly:
“That’s not exactly the Emmy I was looking for. I’m being honest with you.”
Before the nomination, she reflected on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show of initially being snubbed for years:
“Yeah, it always hurt my feelings. When every single person from the cast member was nominated but me, it definitely hurt my feelings. I was happy for everybody, and then when it was finally like, ‘Oh, I’m the only one?’ It hurt.”
Meanwhile, the actress is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming Starz horror series Shining Vale which will be premiering on March 6. Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, the show stars and is produced by Cox alongside co-stars Gus Birney, Greg Kinnear, and Dylan Gage.
