On Sunday night, FTR made history by successfully defending their Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships while also capturing the IWGP Tag Team Championships for the first time in their careers at AEW’s Forbidden Door. The champions seemed to be out of the contest early on when Dax Harwood appeared to injure his left shoulder. He was able to come back late in the match, though, with his shoulder firmly wrapped. To win, the duo nailed Rocky Romero with a Big Rig.
The victory makes the duo the first to hold the Raw, SmackDown, NXT, ROH, AAA, AEW and IWGP Tag Team Championships simultaneously. Because of their strong ranks in the current AEW poll, the two are also on track to become two-time AEW tag team champions.
Prior to capturing the ROH tag belts, the two spoke with ComicBook about how their eyesight of tag team wrestling differs from that of AEW President Tony Khan. “I’m not going to say yes to it being exactly the same,” Harwood stated. I mean, we have our own concept of tag team wrestling that is probably unlike anybody else’s in the world. And it ought to be. I mean, it would be quite dull if everyone had the same vision. However, I believe we are still a startup. Tony, I believe, is signing up the best talent in the world because he does not want to lose money. He’s now signing the top talent in the world because he wants the audience to appreciate the product he’s putting on.
Dax Harwood Said
“That’s all there is to it,” he added. “That’s why we’ve got the best tag teams in the world working for us right now.” Because he wants professional wrestling fans to love it. That’s the end of it. And to watch people, not our supporters, because our fans are really intelligent, but to see people complain about it online blows my head. You’re whining about this guy employing CM Punk, or Daniel Bryan, or John Moxley, or FTR, or Sting, or anybody, and I’m not putting us in the same category as them, but I’m saying you’re moaning because he’s giving you a freaking treat man. He’s presented you with something you’ve never had before. A tremendously stacked talent roster that you’ve never seen before. So, I’m hoping he keeps bringing in tag teams. I hope we can bring in every tag team in the globe. Because I guarantee you that the more, he brings in, the more Cash and I will prove that we are the greatest. And I believe we’ve shown that we’re the greatest because we’re so distinct from everyone else. That’s really getting under my skin.”
