The BJP and TMC are both courting the former Indian cricket captain and sports legend, but he has tried to maintain cordial relations with all parties, including those on the Left.
Roger Binny, a former cricketer for the nation, is likely to lead the BCCI. Before Binny, Sourav Ganguly, a former Indian captain, held this position for around three years. However, it is anticipated that he will resign in favour of Binny during the board’s annual general meeting (AGM), which will take place on October 18.
In the midst of the ongoing controversy over the position of President, Sourav Ganguly’s response has gained attention. I’m going to do something else now,’ he declared. My 15-year cricket career was quite successful. I initially assumed the presidency of the CAB, then the BCCI, and now I’ll do something different.
If stories are to be believed, Ganguly wanted to stay in his position but reportedly did not have backing from other members. He is running a little irate because of this. Maybe for this reason, Ganguly believes that “He will do something different, for which he has relocated.”
In a Bandhan Bank programme, Ganguly made this statement. You can’t play all the time. Administrators can’t always be happy in their jobs, but both of them did. Seeing all sides of the story was interesting. In the future, I’ll do something grander.
According to TMC, BJP tried to recruit Sourav Ganguly to run in the West Bengal elections in 2021, but the former captain of the Indian cricket team declined the offer. As of now, Roger Binny is the sole candidate who has submitted a nomination for the position of BCCI chief.
The TMC’s Kunal Ghosh was reported by PTI as saying, “We are not directly commenting on this topic. However, the BJP will undoubtedly be required to address these rumours given the BJP floated such propaganda both before and after the elections (that politics is behind Ganguly not getting a second term as BCCI chief). It appears that the BJP is attempting to degrade Sourav.
In response, Dilip Ghosh, a former state unit leader and vice president of the BJP, claimed that the leaders of the West Bengali government were making unfounded political accusations. “Our party may have approached Sourav Ganguly, but this is unknown. Trinamool Congress is discussing this matter needlessly. The BJP has reached this point at the national level without being dependent on any one person or making any compromises, according to Samik Bhattacharya, a BJP state spokesperson.
In the meantime, the BJP has denied the reports, claiming that Sourav Ganguly was never asked to join the party. The TMC continued to criticise the saffron party, claiming that while Ganguly was denied his position, Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was awarded a position in the BCCI.
Rahul Sinha, a BJP leader, retaliated against the TMC by claiming that only people involved in cricket can remark on this because it is relevant to the world of cricket. Politics have nothing to do with it. The TMC is politicking the situation since it can’t think of a reason to criticize the BJP.
What exactly is the protocol?Ā
Sourav Ganguly can still serve on the board for three years, according the new Supreme Court regulation. In actuality, the new regulation states that anyone can serve a six-year term in any board position. He will then need to use the cooling system for three years. That is, for the following three years following his six-year term, he will not be permitted to participate in board meetings. The State Board was once counted toward the six-year tenure together with the Central Board, but is no longer. In this manner, Ganguly was inaugurated as president on October 23, 2019, and Jay Shah was named as his secretary the next day.
