Mother’s Day 2022
Mother’s Day is observed every year on India’s second Sunday in May. That is not the case in every country, though. In the United Kingdom, Mother’s Day is observed on the fourth Sunday in March.
Mother’s Day is also observed on February 2 in Greece. The day is associated with the Eastern Orthodox celebration of Jesus Christ’s presentation at a sacred site in the Hellenic Republic.
History of Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is thought to have started in America in 1907, when Anna Jarvis sponsored a worship service at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia, in honour of mothers. Ann Reeves Jarvis expressed her desire for Mother’s Day to be recognised as a national holiday when she died in 1905. Two years later, the first Mother’s Day was observed. In 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson declared it a national holiday. In India, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May; however, it is celebrated on different days in other nations.
The Meaning and Importance of Mother’s Day
In the United States, the first Mother’s Day was observed when a woman named Anna Jarvis wished to commemorate her mother before she died. Jarvis took the initiative three years after her death and organised a monument at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in West Virginia. Despite her inability to attend, she wrote a telegram to the attendees emphasising the importance of the occasion. She thought it was “the person who has done more for you than anybody else.”
Mother’s Day celebrates our mothers’ often overlooked contributions to our lives. Frequently, their efforts are disregarded. In addition, because patriarchal society has taught them that they should not take time off, our moms hardly have time to care for themselves. The safety of their children and families is their primary concern. This is not how things should be.
Therefore, on Mother’s Day, let us always remember to honour our moms for everything they do for us and fight for their rights. On this day, we also honour every mother’s unwavering and unselfish dedication to her children’s success.
It’s also worth noting that we can get motherly affection from anyone we care about. This isn’t only a day to remember individuals born to biological moms.
Here’s wishing all the beautiful mothers across the world A very Happy Mother’s Day!
