The first thing that comes to your mind when someone talks about Korea is K-Dramas or K-Pop, especially the boy band BTS. Hallyu, the Korean pop culture has taken a deep dive in the western countries as well, the culture that was popular just in Asian countries has now influenced western countries like US and UK as well.
This pop culture has been in high time demand since the rise of bands like Black pink and BTS because the people started investing their time in K-Dramas also and now these things have become a popular trend.
Korea has not only given amazing Dramas and songs but the country is popular for its food, fashion, and skincare as well. Because people have seen so many dramas, their food has grabbed the attention of many people as well.
Now you will see many people opening new restaurants based on Korean cuisine, not only restaurants but you will see many shops including Korean snacks in their collection as well. Fast food like Ramen, pocky, buldag noodles and tteokbokki have their different fan base and people are also ready to pay hundreds and thousands of rupees to eat them.
After Netflix released ‘Squid game’, the Korean culture’s popularity skyrocketed, then again last year “Parasite” won The Oscars and became the first non-English movie to take home the Oscars for best picture.
The Korean culture is spreading so much that recently 26 Korean words have been added to the Oxford Dictionary, and among them, one of the words is ‘Hallyu’ meaning Korean wave. Korean culture didn’t become famous overnight, they have been practicing for more than decades to make it happen.
Since Samsung and Hyundai were the only brands that were famous outside the country, they started their own film companies and their main focus was on getting the whole of East Asia hooked on their dramas, movies, and songs.
And after all this effort Psy’s ‘Gangnam style’ became the first song to receive over a billion views on YouTube. Now the Korean culture has expanded so much that even if you go to the streets of Delhi, you will find people selling Korean snacks, Korean food, and even their clothes.
Even though the fashion industry in Korea has expanded a lot in western countries, people have started wearing their brands a lot. The Black Pink girls Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rose are brand ambassadors for huge brands like Chanel, YSL, Dior, and Celine.
These brands have also hired them because of their rising popularity and influential personalities. The Louis Vuitton fashion and beauty Ambassador HoYeon Jung from Korea recently debuted in her first Drama which became a huge hit and she also gained a lot of popularity because of that series.
Well, the Korean wave is here to stay and people are sure enjoying every minute of it. We have invested ourselves in their Dramas and music so much that we have stopped paying attention to other artists.
People, especially young girls are crazy for bands like Black Pink and BTS, that they spend so much money on buying their merchandise, concert tickets, and everything that has written their name on it. Brands are earning a lot from all these things they are just sticking BTS’s face on everything and it also gets sold out.
