Nika Shakarami, a teenager aged 16 years, disappeared after informing one of her friends that she was being chased by the Iran police.
Nika Shakarami who disappeared after informing one of her friends that she was being chased by the Iran police, can be seen protesting in videos.
Nika’s Mother Denied The CCTV Footage
CCTV footage was shown on Iran state TV claiming that it was Nika, after the protest she went to an abandoned building where some workers were working. Iranian state TV claimed that she had died falling off that building. Nika Shakarami disappeared hours after the protest, her mother claimed.
Claiming that it was Nika on the CCTV footage, an Iranian state TV said. She went to an abandoned building where some workers were working and she died by falling, asserted Iran state TV.
However, Nika’s mother, Mrs Nasrin Shakarami, said that it was not Nika on the CCTV footage. Also, another source close to their family also said that the girl in the footage does not walk like Nika.
Nika’s family was seen giving statements admitting the footage recently, which is conflicting with their previous statements. Her aunt, Atash, posted a statement that she died falling from a height. Her uncle, Mohsen was seen on Iran’s state TV last Wednesday night speaking against the protest.
Nika’s Family Was Threatened
Mrs Shakarami told BBC Persian on Monday that her sister Atash and brother Mohsen were forced to make false statements about Nika’s death, while they were in detention. She added that they were threatening to detain her brother Mohsen’s four-year-old child.
In some videos, it was shown that someone off-camera whispers to Mohsen while he was giving statements against the protest on TV last Wednesday night. Nika’s family was released after making these statements.
Nika’s family said that her body was located at the mortuary 10 days after she went missing. And her family was allowed by the officials to see her just for a few seconds to identify her body. Also, Revolutionary Guards told that Nika was in their custody for five days and then handed over to prison authorities.
Nika’s Mother, Nasreen on the Protest
Nika was seen protesting from different angles in some videos. One of the videos showed that Nika was burning the headscarf and people surrounding her were chanting slogans against the dictator. Another video showed some scenes where Nika was seen from the front view.
Nika’s mother said that she supports her daughter’s view about Hijab. She added that their generation did not have the courage which Nika’s generation has, and they have all the rights to protest against the suppression, intimidation and humiliation they have been facing for years.
Nika’s death has been one of the highest-profile cases right now. But, Nika is not the only teenager who died after the protest.
On Monday, the Iranian Society for Protecting the Rights of the Child reported that a total of 28 children were killed, just during the protest, and they added that many other children had been arrested and were being taken to detention centres.
