The Hunger Games prequel that was speculated on for too long is now out with a dark thriller trailer. The movie is expected to be released on the big screen on November 17.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is said to be the last part of the successful movie adaptation of the Hunger Games franchise, which is a popular young adult series based on the best-selling novels by Suzanne Collins. The movie is set for a phenomenal release on November 17.
Hunger Games franchise
The Hunger Games series is a perfect movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins popular dystopian novel series of the same name. The first movie was released in 2010, and it was an immediate blockbuster. After that, three movies based on two of the books were also released, which weren’t as successful as the OG blockbuster.
The Hunger Games basically focuses on a dystopian society where the popular ideology is “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer’. In the movie, the elites live in the Capitol, whereas the rest of the country resides away from them, serving and working hard to even get the bare minimum.
Every year, two children from 12 districts are selected for an encounter with death, and the winner will be awarded. All 24 children play the game after their welcome in the Capitol, which is a prolonged setup apparently adjusted for them to be killed. This whole calibration is done for the amusement of the elite class, echoing another most popular show, ‘The Squid Games’.Â
The Hunger Games movies are named the same as the book itself, but four movies for only three books? Well, in the 2010s, it was trending to break a mega-blockbuster movie into two parts to gain a highly speculated response from a vast audience, as can be seen in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’. Does this sectioning of movies work? Of course it does.
Highly anticipated prequel
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was a highly anticipated prequel because it has been eight years since the last movie was released, and fans were highly excited for the multi-billion dollar movie franchise’s return.
As can be extracted from the trailer released by Lionsgate, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ takes place decades before the actual events that occur in the main series. It basically focuses on the childhood and backstory of the original villain and oppressive president of the trilogy, Coriolanus Snow, played by Donald Sutherland.
The eagle-eyed fans spotted Zegler curtseying, similar to what Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss did in the original movie. Zegler was also spotted performing some musicals and melodies on the stage. The trailer also gives a hint as to the appearance and look of the young, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blythe.
What to expect
From the trailer, it is quite evident that it is set 64 years before the actual events took place. The series will basically focus on the character development of the gruesome villain, Coriolanus Snow, and his backstory, which led him to become who he is now. Tom Blythe as young Coriolanus and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Grey Baird star in the upcoming prequel, written by Michael Lesslie, as tributes to the game.Â
The trailer almost gives a gist as to what we can expect from the movie, but just in case you are not familiar with all the seasons and their orders, we have prepared a guide to ease you a bit so that you may have no trouble binge-watching the infamous dystopian series, The Hunger Games.
