Nupur Sharma, former spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has encountered several threats and warnings for horrendous targeting of the Prophet Mohammad.
On August 10, 2022, Wednesday, the Supreme court merged and disseminated all the 10 FIRs which were registered against Nupur Sharma, to Delhi Police for further investigation.
The bench included Justice Surya Kant and Justice JB Pardiwala who assured that protection granted to Nupur Sharma (as an interim order dated July 19) shall continue till the inquisition is over. The probe for all the amalgamated FIRs (registered against Nupur Sharma) will be undertaken by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) of the Delhi Police. Any addition to the index of FIRs enlisted would be catered by IFSO.

The FIRs are registered in four States – Delhi (1), Maharashtra (5), West Bengal (2) and Telangana
- Pydhonie Police Station, Mumbai, Maharashtra (May 28)
- Cyber Cell Police Station, Hyderabad, Telangana (May 30)
- Mumbra Police Station, Thane, Maharashtra (May 30)

The court was informed that the West Bengal Police had summoned Sharma on different occasions. Despite the protection granted to Nupur during the previous hearing.
The court had therefore issued notices to the State of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Telangana, and Maharashtra to co-operate in the investigation.
FIRs against Nupur Sharma merged: Justified or not?
Menaka Guruswamy, the Senior advocate at the Supreme Court of India, stood at a stance where she opposed Sharma’s plea. As per Menaka, who’s also appearing for the state of West Bengal, the foremost FIR was registered in Maharashtra and not in Delhi.
According to her, the FIR was filed in Maharashtra and its maximum impact has been felt in West Bengal. Delhi isn’t there in the aforementioned list. Therefore, she’s strictly against the clubbing of FIRs. According to Menaka, accused can’t be allowed to pick and choose the investigating authority.
Although she tried to sell the idea of establishing a joint SIT in which officers of the states (where FIRs were filed) could become a part of the investigation and the apex court could monitor the steps. But the bench didn’t buy this suggestion and shut down the proposal request for a joint court-ministered SIT.
Just a drape of victory of civility has been achieved by the government when FIRs were filed against Nupur Sharma. No judgement has been made and no conclusion has been comprehended, to date. What lies behind the drape of this notable event is still a paradox.
Approval of plea in the second go.
It was anticipated that Nupur Sharma approached the apex court. She sought direction for clubbing all the FIRs and quashing the same.
It was taken into account that the same bench of the judges criticised Nupur. They held her responsible for cultivating and igniting horrible scenarios of hate in the country. The bench rejected the petition submitted by Nupur (last month). After the said criticism, Nupur received life and rape threats from fringe elements.
After a month, the bench underwent a drastic change of ideas in mind and accepted the petition which was submitted again by Nupur.
The bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice JB Pardiwala had previously made unwarranted enunciated remarks against Nupur Sharma. In their statement they accused her of the murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur.
Regardless, on August 10, the bench said that they will not go into the merit of the cases against Nupur Sharma. As the plea is only on the merger and transfer of FIRs filed for the same allegation.
How does it affect the unity of the country?
It is now confronted that the audience has now deviated themselves into 2 groups. One group stands strongly against Nupur’s actions while the other has solemnly pledged to support her ideologies and enroot Hindutva.
Following the chain of incidents, an “Attempt to Murder” was reported on August 4, 2022, when Pratik Pawar, 23, was attacked for “committing blasphemy”. He was supporting Nupur Sharma on his social media account. He was attacked by violent mobs in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, the ruckus of Hindu Spokesperson taking a stance on Islam and Muslim prophet had called for a religious war. Amidst the clubbing of FIR and wrath that has been ignited, several accounts tweeted that Nupur Sharma is the face of Hindutva. In the light of Raksha Bandhan, they vowed to defend their sister (Nupur Sharma) at any cost.
What comes next in the list of the events linked to Prophet Mohammad row took an uncertain turn with this decision. Is it justified or not would entirely depend on how the future investigation is carried out.
