- Imran faces embarrassment, Putin didn’t come to welcome him
- Imran moves to Moscow with a plan of natural gas pipeline
Imran Khan, Pakistan Prime Minister, was the first foreign leader to meet with Vladimir Putin, Russian President, after Russian troops entered the separatist area of Eastern Ukraine amongst the increasing tension between Russia and the West.
On Wednesday, February 23, Imran Khan left for Russia for a two-day visit when Russia was occupied in a tense situation of war with Ukraine. He was welcomed by a junior minister instead of Vladimir Putin President upon his arrival in Moscow. Imran’s visit to Russia started with humiliation as Putin brushed him off.
In 23 years, Imran Khan was the first Pakistani prime minister to visit Moscow. He has been in the works for a while, but going ahead as planning could be seen as a hinted Pakistani backing of the Russian leader’s actions.
The plan would be their mutual concerns in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. There may be a discussion on intensifying their regional security cooperation and focusing on counterterrorism operations. Even Pakistan may plan for the $2.5 billion Pakistan Stream natural gas pipeline as Moscow wants to build between Karachi and Kasur, around 650 miles north in the heart of Punjab province.
