Sri Lanka’s economic crisis worsened when demonstrators entered the presidential palace. As part of their protest, they set fire to the PM’s home and demanded the president’s resignation.
In response, Indian authorities have stated that they support Sri Lanka in its time of crisis. Furthermore, the government denied and dismissed any speculation that India is sending troops to manage the island country’s political issues and protests.
BJP politician and former legislator Subramanian Swamy originally proposed military aid to Sri Lanka’s president. The Indian high commission in Colombo tweeted to deny rumours that it would send troops to help Sri Lanka.
A tweet by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy gave rise to these speculations earlier when he said that Mahinda and Gotabaya Rajapaksa were elected through free elections in the Island country, so how could India allow a mob to overturn such a legitimate election?Â
The demand for the Resignation of Sri Lanka’s President
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa took office on November 18, 2019. president’s nation Demonstrators demanded the government’s resignation at the presidential palace. Protesters accuse him of failing to manage the rising economic crisis.
Reports are suggesting that President Rajapaksa will resign on Wednesday, 13 th of July, and Presidential elections for electing a new president will be held soon after. His brother and former PM Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned on May 9, after massive protests demanding his Resignation.
