The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the India-Japan summit was agreed to be held on 19th March 2022. The MEA confirmed the news on Thursday, 17th March 2022. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi invited Prime Minister Kishida to Delhi NCR. Thirteen summits have been held between the two nations in the past.
The Agenda of the Summit
The relations between India and Japan have always been well. They have never been adversaries. The first Japan-India association was set up back in 1903. Over the years, the two nations have maintained their relations over various fields of mutual interests.
The India-Japan summit is planned to be conducted on 19th March 2022. The Prime Ministers of the two nations will be meeting each other for the first time since they have held office. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the statement on 17th March 2022. “India-Japan summit will be held on March 19th.
At the invitation of PM Modi, PM of Japan Fumio Kishida will be undertaking an official visit to New Delhi from 19th -20th March for 14th India-Japan annual summit. This will be the first time meeting of these two leaders.” said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
The summit will be held to elaborate on issues of mutual interest. The meet has always seen conversations on issues of regional and global importance.
In the relationship history of the two countries, they have shared interests mutually. They both had beliefs in individual freedom, democracy and the rule of law. Discussions between the two countries over the years strengthened their views.
They have always built upon these fundamental values that they mutually share. This summit is the 14th summit of the ones held in previous years. The agenda was claimed to revolve around strengthening bilateral cooperation in various areas. Kishida has been invited by Modi to the National Capital of Delhi to hold discussions on this agenda.
Moreover, the conclusion of this summit will follow the discussion with Australia. The MEA claims to have decided upon the date of 21st March for the same. The talks will be held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian counterpart Scott Morrison. This was also confirmed by Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs
The summit between India and Australia follows the footsteps of the 2020 historic virtual summit. The 2020 summit was held to elevate bilateral cooperation to strategic cooperation. India and Australia have had a history of military relationships.
The two countries followed reciprocal military access to each other’s military base. This was done for logistics purposes. They had signed a Mutual Logistics Support Agreement. This allowed them to utilize each other’s bases for logistics purposes. It additionally aided them in supply replenishment.
India continues to gradually strengthen its international relationships with historical relevance. In the era of access to high-level technology and military equipment, India has successfully utilized and mutually aided countries on various spectrums.
